Dear UNO Board of Regents,
I'm shocked and disappointed with your decision to destroy one of the most successful wrestling programs in the entire country. Six championships in eight years would be called a dynasty in most sports but in wrestling I guess you can call it "a good candidate for the chopping block"? Most university boards are proud of their athletic accomplishments and give special care and attention to those programs that are ultra successful. Do you have any idea of how many universities dump hundreds of thousands of dollars into programs just trying to win half their events? UNO is blessed to have a championship caliber wrestling program already up and running at minimal cost to the university and you are voting to throw it away? For what? Div I basketball revenue? You know your basketball team will never have the type of success that the UNO wrestling team has had in the last eight years. You need to explore other options that will not affect the wrestling team.
If you do have to get rid of football and wrestling, I'd suggest that to save money you don't give any scholarships for soccer or golf for the first few years and make the football players and wrestlers that are still on scholarship play soccer or golf until their scholarships are done - that makes about as much sense as what you are currently proposing anyways.
Good luck in your universities quest to be mediocre!
Due to the large volume of emails I am unable to respond at to each
correspondence individually. I do thank you for your concern and interest
in UNO Athletics and for sharing your thoughts with me.
There's no such thing as a pretty good aligator wrestler.
