Thread: So is McD the 1 seed?

McDonough is a lock for the #1 seed, there won't even be any discussion. ASU coach would be laughed out of the meeting if he tried to bring that up.

I agree that McD should get it and I think he will as well.

1st or 2nd seed it doesn't matter to me and I don't think it matters to Matt. Having McDonough and Precin on the same side of the bracket would be an injustice as they have already faced each other 3 times. Other than that I don't think it matters; a case came be made for both wrestlers to have the #1 seed.

    1) McD
    2) Robles
    3) Precin

Robles should not have ducked the Midlands.

I just dont understand this, if you can forget the McD-Precin and put McD at 1, over an undefeated robles how can you not do the same for precin?

And with the prior NCAA Performance Precin has robles beat albeit by a 7th and a 3rd to a 7th and a 4th.

It should be McD Precin Robles Nicholson

As JensenS has already alluded to, name ONE starter from ASU that went to midlands? There weren't any. They didn't send starters, there was no "ducking."

Looking at Robles schedule he has faced tough opponenets and demolished them.
Not counting the All-Star match is a BS rule and I think it is often ignored.

This can all really be resolved if you go:

    1. McD
    2. Robles
    3. Precin
    4. Nicholson

Then you either have an undefeated Champion in Nicholson or Robles and no one can say they didn't get a fair shot at finals and you don't have to have a McD/Precin match-up again until finals and the finalists have certainly earned their way through.

How you order it doesn't matter to me either but I kind of agree after reading everyone's "takes" that the only injustice would be seeing Precin/McDonough before the final if they both make it that far.

The guy on the top of the podium at the end of the day is the champion and will have earned it. Some guys act like the seeding is a "respect" thing and I guess I understand that but a Champions heart doesn't care if he's unseeded, he knows he has to beat the best to be the best. I think the top 4 guys in this class (and I would include Sanders in this bunch as well) understand that.

Alot of good healthy debate around this and I don't really have a dog in this fight other than being a Gopher fan for Sanders but it seems to me the guys saying, "my guy, case closed" just are working off of an emotional reaction. The factual side to me screams, "total toss-up" with Mcd and Robles and if Im in the seeding meeting you could certainly say that the criteria goes:

    1. head to head-nothing
    2. common opponents-Robles
    3. prior results-McDonough
    4. overall season-Robles

It sure would have been nice had Robles gotten that conference match against Mango, that would have helped. By these criteria I would say Robles gets 2 out of the 3 that have a result and that by having the highest criteria that trumps prior results (see Dustin Schlatter, 2010). If you really want to, literally toss a coin with the winner getting the #1 and the loser getting #2 and if it makes sense then Precin gets the 3 seed I guess. Looking forward to this weight every bit as much as the 141.

Who wants to bet the top 4 at 125 will make the semi's. I for one think you will see an upset or two.

The only one I see getting knocked off pre-semis is Nicholson.
