It's more than that. Everyone is saying it because they feel obligated to say it (In my opinion only).
Well I can't speak for anyone else, but that's not why I said it. My opinion is that neither did the others.

    Spidey,
You know I respect your opinion, even if I disagree. You were not intended to be included in the "everyone", a word I shouldn't have used anyway.

    Tom,
No apologies necessary. You might be right, afterall.

Iowa has NO SPECIFIC wording for this situation. Nor does Ohio. It's a matter of how the rules, that they do have, are interpreted. Or how the National Federation rules are interpreted.

Speaking of interpretation, it's interesting how you interpreted my posts to come up with the quote above. "Just a bit outside" as Bob Uecker would say (IMO).

I did not go back and reread your post where I thought you were insinuating that this was the rule in Iowa. If I misinterpreted what you meant or said I apologize.

Did you all see this? Rick Reilly responded to some of the emailed criticism of his article on Herkelman and Northrup: http://espn.go.com/blog/rick-reilly-...eillys-mailbag

Thanks for the link to Reilly's follow-up on commnets he received on his column. Unfortunately it didn't do anything to restore my previously good feelings about him. I don't understand why he feels he has to debase someone who is clearly operating out of conviction. His comments sounded like his problem was that Joel's convictions were based on religion. If they had just been personal (non-religious convictions) it sounded like he would have been okay with it. But where do convictions come from? Maybe Reilly had just backed himself into a corner and rather than admitting some error, he continued to defend himself. We all do that at times.

    My opinion:

    1. The people directly involved handled this situation with respect and dignity to all. Based on their comments none were offended.

    2. I know of no Iowa rule that was violated whatsoever so the digression into that area is irrelevant and baseless.

    3. Some people seem eager to transform any issue into some type of crusade whether the facts support it or not. In this particular case it isn't warranted.

    4. Why is this topic on here and not in the appropriate high school forum?

Holy crap, what a tool. I am REALLY surprised when I see how this guy handles himself in blogs. He should stick to feature stories and his show, "Coming Home Again" or whatever the hell he calls it.

His blogs sound like the ramblings of a 12 year old.
