Default Kellen Russell dec Montell Marion 9-5

Got a TD with 13 seconds left in the third period to tie the match, and then a TD and two backs 20 seconds into OT to win it.

Can he be called the "favorite" now?

This match again showed the lameness of college wrestling scoring. Marion had two TD's and an escape, Russel had 3 escapes, and gets his lone regulation TD with 13 seconds remaining to send it to OT. Lame lame lame.

Well, the match may have "scored lame," but it sure as hell watched far from lame!

Far from lame; I was on the edge of my seat in the third period.

It wasn't a complaint about that match in particular. Obviously Russell won fair and square. I just think it illustrated one of the problems w/ collegiate scoring.

Such as what? The age old system of 2 for a takedown and 1 for an escape?

I think you're right, JensenS. But he's still not my favorite.

I don't think anyone argued that he wasnt the favorite. It was the "clear favorite" that you tagged him with that was debated. I still don't think he is the clear favorite. I think Marion showed that when he stays on his offense he can beat Russell, and he should have. IMO he was the better wrestler today, but he didnt wrestle the full seven minutes. Maybe next time he'll score earlier and not give up a front head with ten seconds left. Still think Marion is better. Except for OT, Marion was the better wrestler and more aggressive. Even though he lost I am more confident in for his matchups with him at B10's and Nationals if they meet there.

A lot of the same things said about Alton's first match with Russell, but the simple fact is he knows how to win matches.
