Default Ohio beats Central Michigan 21-17: Nick Purdue Sticks Ben Bennett

    Great win for the Bobcats.

Casey Gordon's win was on a stall call in 2OT.

<TABLE border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 width="100%"><TBODY><TR><TD class=sm>ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio won two matches on defensive falls and a third in overtime to claim a 21-17 Mid-American Conference victory over No. 12 Central Michigan Friday night.
The loss was just the third in the last 66 MAC duals for CMU (5-8 overall, 1-1 MAC) and snapped a 12-match winning streak over Ohio (8-4 overall, 3-0 MAC).
The teams traded falls to open the dual, with Ohio's Gabe Ramos (125 pounds) and CMU's No. 11-ranked Scotti Sentes (133) both tallying six team points.
No. 20 Germane Lindsey gave Ohio a 9-6 lead with a 3-1 decision over Scott Mattingly at 141 pounds. Mattingly led 1-0 entering the third period, but Lindsey evened the score with an early escape, then scored the decisive takedown with 50 seconds remaining in the match.
Donnie Corby evened the score for the Chippewas with an 8-2 decision at 149 pounds. Corby took down OU's Darrin Boing in each of the bout's three periods.
Casey Gordon scored a key 2-1 decision in overtime at 157 pounds over CMU's Ryan Cubberly. The match was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, through the first sudden victory and through the first set of 30-second tiebreakers. In the second sudden victory, Cubberly was called stalling with just three seconds remaining, giving the decision to Gordon.
Eric Cubberly answered for CMU at 165 pounds, claiming a 7-2 decision over Steve Wilson that tied the score at 12-12.
Ohio took control of the dual at 174 pounds when Nick Purdue pinned No. 5 Ben Bennett. Bennett was leading 5-2 in the second period when Purdue was credited with a pin off a neutral scramble. CMU was penalized a team point following the bout, extending Ohio's lead to 18-11.
CMU's Chad Friend earned his first career MAC victory at 184 pounds, and No. 2 Jarod Trice defeated No. 20 Jeremy Johnson at heavyweight, but No. 16 Erik Schuth's decision at 197 pounds for Ohio secured the victory for the Bobcats.
Ohio's victory was its first over the Chippewas since a 22-17 win in Mount Pleasant on Jan. 25, 1998.
