As a guy who cheers for Oregon State (which hasn't been in a real title hunt since 94 I think) I can tell you that I hadn't been this excited for a dual (that I couldn't even watch) in I don't know how long. I was just about jumping out of my skin during the Alton/Marion match wondering if Marion could fight his way back and if Alton had one more "big move" left to seal things up, same with the DT/DSJ match, when Taylor is on the mat you never know what might happen, it's almost like having Robles out on the mat, the guy can rack up points in a hurry.

In the end even reading the liveblog I was on the edge of my seat, ignored the phone was glued to my monitor. I think that this could be a really good thing for wrestling as a whole.

I agree that PSU wrestled terribly yesterday and Iowa did a great job. Long, Alton and Wright were big disappointments - Long didn't do anything really; Alton gassed but even so should have been able to hold onto the sizable lead he had starting the third period; Wright didn't do anything either. Molinaro and Ruth should have gotten majors.

But .... if the ref doesn't ignore/miss the pin at 141, this was a 19-19 tie. So a team with at least two gaping holes in their lineup (125 and 197) and a couple of big questions (165 and 184) wrestles poorly and the result is still one comatose ref away from a tie.

I think the match showed PSU is still a very young team that needs to grow and has some serious holes in the lineup. That they have done as well as they have in duals this year is pretty amazing. Next year they should fill in those holes and they don't lose anyone who wrestled yesterday (or this year really except for a couple of appearances by Pataky).

Iowa - as always, the fans need to settle down and get some perspective. If the ref yesterday had called stalling against them when warranted, PSU would have had two more majors. Couple that with the blown pin call, and Iowa - even though wrestling as well as they could and having their opponent wrestle poorly - still would have lost.

If Alton had gotten the stick, it would have been one of the fastest calls in history. I'm a fan of Alton, but I didn't see evidence of a pin. Ballweg wasn't stalling - Molinaro never left parallel, he just kept a leg in and pretended to work the head and arms. Blaming the refs for this one is a major reach.

The Iowa fans don't need to keep anything in perspective - I think they just administered a large helping of perspective to PSU.

At CHA however that dual could have gone to Iowa by MORE. That they came in to Penn State and punched them in the face was pretty impressive and I'm not even a Hawk fan. Don't give people the "if he would have majored him stuff". That is weak. You could easily say "If Alton doesn't catch Marion, Marion could have majored him and that being said, if that match goes 2 more minutes Marion could have well pinned him."

Kids step up all the time and gut check like Ballweg v Molinaro etc. There are no guarantees in this sport and what Iowa did at pretty much every weight was step up. That was impressive in and of itself. Each person did what he had to do.

Mr. Steve, I started a thread dedicated to fans like you on usawrestlingnation.com It's called "PSU Hypothetical Thread" Feel free to go there and be among your kind. Your rhetoric is what I had in mind when I began the thread.
To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.

Very well said Goph. I like that you can give input from the outside. I agree with everything you said here.

I think that youre wrong here with your assessment Steve. Its great to be a fan, but Alton did not have Marion pinned and the ref was pretty consistent with stall calls.

In the end Bael cant beat Iowa when the stage is the brightest, and got another slap in the face.....literally, you should watch the press conference afterwards......he got slapped right in the forehead with the red mark to prove it. The Perspective was handed to PSU as well......this should show them that you dont win titles on paper, and to never try a White Out against Iowa.....he should have talked to Jo Pa before that great idea was thrown out there.
