    Seriously.

Dont mean to get hyper technical, Russ, but aren't you referring to Statute of limitations rather than a right to a speedy trial? Speedy trial right obtains AFTER a def has appeared in Court and entered a plea(at least in Wisconsin) 60 days for Misdemeanors and 90 for felonys. DA has 3 years to issued charges in Misdemeanor and 6 in felonys and no limit on intentional homicide.
Sounds to me like the DA ordered a thorough investigation after the incident including supplemental reports before making his decision. Good for him; he's serious.

yea-that is what I meant to say-The DA weighed his options carefully on this one and THAT is why I think Byers may be in a spot of trouble. I thought he would have appeared before the Judge in November as he was held w/out bond and been read his charges then as he probably had to go for a bond reduction. I know his 2nd court date is in March so I assumed he'd been read his charges and his options of plea and what rights he'd give up and so on .
In Indiana there is NO statute of limitation of violence involving a LEO.
PS-n Indiana the clock starts ticking on a fast and speedy the moment you make your first appearance before a judge and are read the charges-although the courts are so backed up fast and Speedy is kinda a dead issue.

"Speedy Trial' is more of a theory than a reality.
Many years ago, an Atty asked me for a 'speedy trial' for his client; I looked at my calendar and gave it to him...within a month or so.
His response: "Not that speedy, Judge!"

In Marion County we have guys who have sat in jail for a year on a class C-guys cannot afford a bond so they rot in Jail-and Marion county was ranked next to last on the worst jail list in a major city.
I sent you the articles on the charges our outgoing DA is facing. When corruption is that bad at the top it does not just trickle down-it cascades like a Waterfall.

Really? hadn't heard anything. That would be awesome though, since 197 is a really, really ugly hole next season.

Two things jump out at me here,

Lots of drinking goes on in Arlington Va, but this took place in a residential area blocks away from bars (house party or a girl thing)

This is a relatively long way away from GMU (Fairfax) for a college kid to go to a house party. Lots of places closer to GMU, it all seems rather strange to me.
