Word is that Byers is headed to PSU, will immediately jump into the lineup and fill their hole at 197.

ASSAULT ON POLICE-ARREST, 11/8/2010, 3200 block of N. Pershing Drive On November 6 at 1:30 am, a man assaulted another man. When police arrive, the suspect also spit on an officer. Cayle Byers, 21, of an unknown address, was charged with Assault on Law Enforcement and Drunk in Public. He was held without bond.

Maybe this is a guy with the same name as my boy, who just happens to drink in the same area as my boy! I'm just saying we shouldn't jump to conclusions until we see the grainy mugshot of the disgraced spitter, or see the action live on "Alaska Troopers", thats all.
btw- To the Wise Commish: Maybe an idea for next season should be an automatic trip & pick to the supplemental draft pool for the unlucky team owner who has a boy spending time in the hooskow during the season! This kind of "Miami Vice" nonsense has been occuring at least once every season for the last few years now - Dudziak, Marion, Long, Murphy, Meade, the guy who stole that tractor af few years ago, heck even to our coaches if we count TJ Jaworsky! This post started off as a bit of off-color humor, but in looking at it for a second time, I am starting to seriously wonder how much damage this kind of "publicity" does to our sport, especially at a time when so many programs are on the brink of elimination. Sure can't be good.

I concur. And to answer JensenS' question -NO-it is not much different than what Long did-it is also just as WRONG as what Long did , or MM, or....
99% of all guys will get drunk in college and make a fool of themselves .Yet MOST will face the consequences of their actions. If winning has become so important that character and HONOR are thrown out the window then something is wrong.
How many people on this forum are coaches ? How would you react if your STUD hit (or spit on or hip tossed) a LEO ? Personally , I would shake the guys hand , wish him luck and (since I coached high school ) told him he was welcome back next year. I am a firm believer in second chances and will go out of my way to help someone who deserves one-but certain boundaries are set up which you must not cross-bad precedents are being set. I feel we should reign this crap in before our sport is cut altogether or worse-has sunk to the level of basketball.

Cops arent' paid to fight with anyone let alone trained DI jocks.

We pay cops to protect us from thugs, not to take crap from them. Hopefully, whoever this defendent is will run into a tough, pro-cop prosecutor and a no nonsense judge and both he and anyone else inclined to fight with cops will get a strong message.

Does anyone else find it strange that this supposedly occurred in November and is just seeing action now?

No, Not really. The DA took his time in deciding if charges were going to be filed . A right to a fast and speedy trial is (in Indiana ) 79 days . So the DA has 79 days before he must proceed. Byers was arrested in practice so I doubt GMU had any choice but to let him withdrawl from school or get kicked out. Byers withdrew.

I don't think so--I just made that up to be funny. It would be quite a twist, though.
