D.c. has exponentially more talent than meade. In my opinion at least. Dc has no off the mat issues(at least that are public knowledge)

I disagree. And this is coming from one of the biggest Caldwell homers in existence. Alex Meade is one of the most talented wrestlers in d1, technically and athletically. It's whether his conditioning can match his talent. It's a hump that seems to have finally been conquered by his good friend Mario Mason.

Meade is very talented but cmon... DC beat up Brent Metcalf while wrestling for NC State

    Thats pretty tough to top.

At this point in the thread, I think the argument is more that at one point Meade had the potential to do everything DC has done. Obviously DC has panned out much better.

I think people are arguing with the word "exponentially," not the fact that Caldwell is more talented.

I think DC is once every few years kind of talent. I think there are probably 30-40 guys with equal talent to meade.

It's kind of quibbling, but I'm bored (I also think this is a good opportunity to discuss what "talent" means)...

I think Caldwell is a tremendous talent, but perhaps not an "every few years" talent. I think the following current wrestlers (not including redshirts) are roughly as talented as Caldwell: Burroughs, Oliver. The following guys are maybe as talented as Caldwell: Howe,Dake. There are a lot of guys on a slightly lower tier. Lastly, I'm confident that Taylor is more talented than Caldwell. So, rather than an "every few years" talent, I think it's a once a year talent (4-5 guys out there for a 4 year time span).

There are other guys like Alton and Ruth who I don't think we've seen quite enough of to tell. Look at Caldwell his freshman year. I think Alton and Ruth are pretty comparable to a young Caldwell--very good and unique feels for the sport and very athletic (although I don't think any of the three is all very similar to either of the other two in the "type" of athleticism).

Also, I don't know that 30-40 is a very "modest" number of guys of equal talent to Meade, but we are bound to disagree (imagine that!). Talent, in my mind, is a product of athletic ability and feel for the sport. It's not as much a matter of work ethic and mental discipline, though they are probably still a part of it in that it takes some of them just to bring your talent to the surface. Relative to the D1 college wrestling scene, I think Meade has probably 80-percentile athleticism and 90-percentile feel for the sport. I won't look through the rankings to come up with a number, but my sense is the number of guys with such a combination is lower than 30-40. Probably 20-25ish better describes how I feel about it.

edit: after further thought, I don't think Howe is there, but I'm leaving him in anyway.

You forgot Ganbayar Sanjaa. Or is he more appropriately placed in "once a generation" type of talent?
