Is this the same formula where you had Iowa State ranked ahead of Iowa two years ago even though they had just lost to them?

I think that was last year. It showed ISU as the best dual team despite losing every single tournament and dual they wrestled in.

Herkey-Sort of. That was the Dual-Component Ranking, which basically matches up all of the wrestlers based on their rankings at the respective weight classes. I haven't released the Dual-Component Ranking yet, and do not plan to for another two weeks.
BTW, the culprit in that case, Herkey, was (ironically enough) that Southern Illinois-Edwardsville was pulling down your rankings. It was not coincidental that when I pulled all of the Southern Illinois-Edwardsville wrestlers from the rankings, Iowa managed to pass Iowa State (and quite convincingly so). This year, as Southern Illinois-Edwardsville has a more competitive team (they actually won a dual over the weekend over a Division I opponent, beating Gardner-Webb, their second Division I victory of the season), I do not anticipate having to do that.

Something was wrong with that equation. If you have to pull out a variable to get a desired outcome then it's probably time to go back to the drawing board. IMO, the missing variable was the all too frequently absent common sense. Had it been factored into the equation you might have came up with the outcome that Iowa was better than every other team no matter what type of competition it was in 09/10.
SHP, you come up with some good stuff to get us thinking. I'm just playing Hawkeyes advocate.

I have looked SHP's spreadsheet formulas exstensivley herk & I can tell you I can't find any real fault in them @ all. There are just numbers that measure differences between Team A & their spefic opponents & the differences of Team A's opponents & their opponents. If you wrestle a low caliber team like SIUE then it is going to bring the numbers down.
Thats to say if you beat the crap out of everyone your numbers go UP but if your opponents in turn get the crap beat out of them ALL THE TIME it diminishes the average. And btw he averages the $hit out of it so the numbers are stable & there is no humongous descrepancies in them.
Nothing wrong with the formula really. One could teak it per say if you factored in strenth of schedule or rankings. Then it would become more of an RPI.

Wow Kr, you must have hit a huge sale on Time and bought it all.
I'm just sayin if youre formula says that Iowa State is better than Iowa after they got beat by Iowa then something is wrong.

Not if you average a really big win with a bunch of wins vs Coe & SIUE. It's just numbers based upon the entire schedule, not anyone's opinion. Thats why when he dropped out the SIUE score it aligned more with the rankings & conventional wisdom. He doesn't weight the wins, its just margin of victory averaging.
You could weight the wins & losses yea but then figuring that out so it isn't so arbitrary does pose a "minor" problem. Thats what gets the BCS in trouble. Every year they are tweaking the numbers to weight things arbitrarily to get the result they want & the next year SOMETHING happens.
Even when the NCAA uses RPI to help them pick the BB tourney they don't always get it right.
