Default Ed Ruth dec Mack Lewnes 11-5 (Video Inside)

Made it look easy, Lewnes looked terrible.

All over his legs the entire match, didn't let Lewnes get anything going at all.

Not the same Lewness we're used to seeing.

Maybe it's because I haven't seen too many of his matches, but I have never been terribly impressed with Lewnes.

Wow. I've been touting Ed Ruth all year, but never thought THAT would happen. Sadly I have them both on my fantasy team.

I think Ruth's long arms played a factor in this match; Lewnes relies a lot on keeping his second leg out of distance when his opponent is in on a single, but Ruth was so lanky that he could just reach over and grab that ankle anyways.

I saw Ruth seek out Lewnes after the match and they hugged, so good sportsmanship from both.

    SATS, thanks, great match!

I will say that even in that one, though, Lewnes got into some tough spots which he escaped from due to his physical gifts and scrambling ability. As you yourself point out, that can come back to bite you against the wrong opponent.

For example, here. No leg defense- Ruth gets his legs and he tries to scramble out of it; Ruth is too good.

I'm not trying to bash Lewnes or anything, clearly he is a great wrestler, but against the best he may have to show better tactical wrestling and basic defence.
