    Default Duke University

Duke University seems to be having a great year as far as wrestling goes. The Blue Devils victories at the Citadel Open and Wolfpack Open were just awesome in my opinion.

any success for a program like Duke is great in order to keep the team a viable men's sport for that school...i am sure basketball, football and lacrosse aren't going anywhere.

I doubt you will ever see a sport dropped at Dook. The two reasons that are usually cited, financing and Title IX aren't issues for them. I don't think Dook would drop wrestling even if the remaining ACC schools dumped the sport.

Clar Anderson does one of the best coaching jobs in the country. But financing and/or title ix must be an issue since they have ZERO scholarships for wrestling.

Anyone know why Nico Cortese didn't wrestle in the opens?

He's going to be a good one for Duke in the near future.

Correction, as a university and as an athletic department, it is not hurting for cash. I have heard they feel they can be as competitive as peer schools, Brown, Cornell and Columbia that do not fund athletic scholarships.

I believe the Duke Varsisty Club does assist with some academic merit based cash.

Duke does offer athletic scholarships, just not in wrestling and some other sports, mainly men's sports.

I agree 100%. It can't be easy finding smart rich wrestlers.

PS just to clarify, it's "Dook" - I'm glad RYou gets it right now

We as a people focus way to much on money when it comes to sports. Sports are a way for people to show off their prowess and skill, not a way for small groups of people to get rich off of other peoples labor!
