Yep, they definitely benefit from having 2 recruiting classes at Penn State. There is no doubt about that. Its sick to see that happen.

Yeah I don't understand why a kid would want to wrestle for the coach that originally recruited them to their college team. Makes no sense.

If Ceal doesnt win at least three in a row starting this year with the double recruiting class he's underachieving and nowhere close to the coach that Brands is. The wrestling community is outraged over Caels double class. Its dominating the message boards.

Except for the fact that 3 of the 4 transfers (excluding Leet) were already Iowa boys to start with. Last I checked I used to watch Long wrestle as a little kid, and HS kid in the state of Iowa with absolutely NO ties to PA.

I agree, I am outraged by this double recruiting class, and all the points that Taylor and Long score them in Nationals needs to be subtracted from their total. It really is only fair because Bael is really selling his soul to try and win a title.

There are a several distinct differences in the VA Tech/Iowa vs PSU/Iowa St situations:

    1. The Va Tech to Iowa transfers took place all at once. Brands decided to go to Iowa and, within days afterward, so did the wrestlers. The Iowa State to PSU situation is the case of several individuals (4 total: Cyler, Luke Machiarolli, David Taylor, and now, Andrew Long) making individual decisions over an 18 month period. Admittedly, the first three decided quickly. However Taylor and Machiarolli had never enrolled in class at ISU.

    2. Taylor and Machiarolli never enrolled at ISU, vs Metcalf and gang attending Va Tech for a full year before transferring. Va Tech gave tangible resources to wrestlers who never wrestled for them.

    3. Iowa State has chosen to give releases to all involved. That decision did not happen at Va Tech, probably because the Va Tech people felt like the program was being devastated by the transfers. Iowa State is already on track to recovery. So is Va Tech, by the way.

These are just my opinions. I think the situations are vastly different.

    Not really that distinct.

So as long as Cael only takes transfers each year at weights he has holes, it's ok? Ryak Finch, come on down!

Time and money spent by Iowa State to recruit these kids isn't a resource?

Iowa State is on the track to recovery? They look to be on a pretty big downward cycle to my eye right now, we'll see how they recruit this year. The only eventual studs I see on the roster next year are Finch and MAYBE Gadsen.

These are just my opinions. I think the situations are vastly different.
Looking at your screen name, I'm sure you do. In my mind, it's really not that much different. And I don't mind that any of it is happening, either, but I don't appreciate double standards.

I see its only a double standard when PSU does it. Brands almost destroyed the hokie program they were talking about dropping wrestling.

Since you arent quite grasping it...The double standard is because everyone in the wrestling world was ranting and raving about Iowa and the double recruiting class, while not a word has been said about Penn St's new class of wrestlers that came from ISU. Except for some tongue in cheek responses by Iowa fans.

Just imagine if ISU had Long, Taylor, Machiarolli, and Sanderson (last year). Add those to Gadsen, Beard, Finch, Weatherman, Valles, along with a few of those guys that are at PSU that wouldve came to ISU to wrestle for Cael, like possibly the Altons, Sherlock, etc...If you can't win a title at Iowa State with those guys you cant win anywhere. We shall find out.
