    Default Loras College Open Results

Those dangdy UNI Panthers looked pretty dominant today in their season debut!

Terrance Young looks outstanding. He is extremely quick and powerful. He was up 4-2 in the first before Caleb made a bad shot and was caught in a cowcatcher and whipped over to his back and pinned. I personally hope they keep him in redshirt as that will only help him develop. I am not saying Caleb cannot catch up to him, I am certain he can but right now I see Young as the more confident and explosive wrestler. Caleb Flores is a very talented wrestler who needs to learn how to pull the trigger and also is at a disadvantage in close offense which is very much the collegiate game now adays. Between now and next year he needs to work on that, and of course strength to take out Young. Adam Hight wrestled better than I anticipated. He lost twice to a fifth year senior from Loras, he is small and needs to work on bulking up some to be competitive in DI.

    133

Josh Baldridge is just too strong for most kids he wrestles and he has a motor that just keeps going. He is physically too much for any of the 133 pounders at a tournament like this. Where he will struggle is when he goes up against a skilled wrestler that can match his strength and endurance, there will be lots skilled strong 133 pounders in DI. Grant Sutter and Cody Delagardelle both wrestled well for freshmen. I was impressed by Grant Sutter wrestling up a weight and wrestling so well.

    141

Trent really came prepared Saturday. He did not want a repeat of last weekend. He maintained good position and over powered Alec in the match to secure the win. I think this weight class is pretty secure and competitive for the Panthers with these two.

    149

Another very good weight for the Panthers. Charlie is just a hard worker who battles through the entire match and that is what doomed Jamall who took the early lead and held the lead through much of the match. In the end Charlie just wore him down. Cole Zemple wrestled very well in taking third.

    157

Tyson had a battle on his hands at 157. He got caught when Loras’ Eric Hanson rolled through on his takedown attempt and had to battle back to tie the score and take the match into overtime. He did get the takedown in OT to win. Other than the lapse in letting his opponent roll through, he looked pretty good on the day.

    165

Moza, is Moza, what more can one say. Nobody at a tournament like this is going to be in his class. However, I am very pleasantly pleased with this David Bonin kid from Louisiana. He has some real skills and battled Moza with all he had.

    174

Both Scott Hazen and Jarion Beets wrestled well. Scott only lost to Travis Hammons by one point, and Hammons is a very very good wrestler. Jarion actually beat Travis.

    184

Andy O’Loughlin, wh0 is working on off the mat issues to come back looked really good in dominating all of his matches. With luck he will get everything resolved and come back to the team next term and if not then at least next year.

    197.

Andrew Anderson was extremely dominate and should have a very good year this year. I would not be the least bit surprised to see him on the stand this year.

    285

Christian Brantley is a fun one to watch. He has a lot of skills and smarts when it comes to wrestling. I really cannot wait till the Kaufman Brands to see how he looks against really good heavyweights.

Yes, Terrance Young has some great skills. He should do well this year.

I was very impressed with him; he may be our man at 125, but I'm completely stumped as to why they are red shirting him.

Unless I'm missing something I cannot recall when a JUCO transfer has red shirted at UNI, or even any school for that matter. Why not wrestle him now? The skills are there.

Actually Baldridge was slated to redshirt last year till Washington got hurt. Lots of JUCO redshirt either before or after their transfers. Sometimes it is done for the best of the team, but more than anything it is for the good of the wrestler. I could well be that they want him to get caught up on some school work.

Maybe, but I don't recall ever seeing it at UNI.
