College Wrestling Marketing Study
Hello Wrestling Fans,<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p
I am currently working with the NWCA to improve marketing efforts at the All-Star Dual and the National Duals. Ultimately, the goal is to not only maximize attendance at the two events, but also to use the data to enhance interest at future college tournaments and dual meets across the United States. We have put together a survey to initially understand the reasons why fans are planning on attending the NWCA All-Star Dual. Additionally, we are hoping to get feedback from those individuals who choose not to attend the All-Star Dual. The goal of the research is to improve the product offered to you in future years. I hope you will participate in the study because it is one of the few ways we can improve the college wrestling product. Thanks for your time!<O:p</O:p

Re: College Wrestling Marketing Study
I like and attend National Duals because it is in my home state. I will go every year as long as it stays close to Iowa. It is very exciting. You get to see the best teams go at it in a two day period. Except OSU. (I think they will be back in a couple of years when they think they have a good enough team to compete.) I like that it is held in the middle of the season as it along with the Midlands brings us back from a lull after christmas break.
I have never been to the All star dual but if it were held close to Iowa I would go. I think that the interest and attendence of both of these events would increase if they were counted as advertised. The national duals should be a NCAA tournament and recognized as such. The champ should be recognized as an NCAA champion. This way all the top teams would attend. The all star dual should count on the records of the wrestlers as well. All the top guys would go if they thought they would get a chance to really bump up their stock for seedings in the future.
Re: College Wrestling Marketing Study
The biggest factor in me going or not going to the All-Star meet is the day. If it was on Saturday or Sunday I would be there in a flash with a carload of people. It is close enough(3 hours) for me this year, but I'd have to skip out on wrestling practice to get there.
Most of the wrestling fans are going to be high school kids and coaches. During this time of they year practice time is invaluable and missing an hour or a full practice is not something a coach would like to do.
By having it on a Monday you are restricting the coaches and wrestlers to a one hour radius of the host city. By changing the date you increase that to 2-3 hours.
I just hope its live on TV this year, so I can have a wrestling party at my place!

Champ - it will be on ESPNU but it is going to be tape-delayed and shown on December 4th but a definite time has not been set.

Re: College Wrestling Marketing Study
Well, the research is designed to find ways to get more people interested in the product. I know that the NWCA is excited about getting feedback about the event from wrestling fans. I hope that this will lead to some changes that will increase attendance at the event. It would be terrific if the NWCA could build it in to an event where it was a sold-out arena. Thanks for the feedback! We will be doing a similar study for the National Duals. We will be incorporating some of your thoughts into that study.
