Thread: #2 Oklahoma State v. #3 Minnesota Predictions/Discussion/Results

  1. #1

    Default #2 Oklahoma State v. #3 Minnesota Predictions/Discussion/Results

Second major BTN dual of the weekend and given the demographics of this board perhaps the "biggest" overall event next weekend.

    125
#9 Jon Morrison v. #4 Zach Sanders (Sanders dec, 3-0 Minnesota)

Given how Smith and JRob both generally like to start things off at 125 we may wind up getting what looks like the match of the dual here first. Sanders continues to be who we think he is (meaning very good) and Morrison has emerged as one of the better freshmen during the early part of the year. I think Sanders wins here with his pace and his ability from the feet. Morrison's top game makes me a little nervous though. He doesn't seem that big though, and in the past its seemed like its not JUST guys with good top games but big guys with good top games that have tripped Sanders up.

    133
#1 Jordan Oliver v. UR Thane Antczak (Oliver maj, 4-3 Oklahoma State)

Given how Oliver has wrestled so far this year predicting the major here may wind up understating things. Antczak was able to only give up the major this weekend against Sentes, but Oliver is a completely different kind of wrestler as he's got the capability to play 2 for 1 until back points present themselves.

    141
#20 Luke Silver v. #5 Mike Thorn (Thorn dec, 6-4 Minnesota)

Already went down in the UNO finals where Thorn won 3-0. Would be huge for the Gophers if Thorn is able to get 4 here.

    149
#7 Jamal Parks v. UR Danny Zilverberg (Parks dec, 7-6 Oklahoma State)

Not a ton to say here, Parks is just better. Zilverberg may have the ability to make this match more interesting later in the year once he gets his feet underneath him but if he wrestles sloppy here like he apparently did at times this past weekend then Parks should have his way.

    157
#11 Albert White v. UR Alec Ortiz (White dec, 10-6 Oklahoma State)

Can't state emphatically enough how much I'd love to have Jake Deitchler here for the Gophers. White has started off the year wrestling well after losing to Parks down at 149 and moving up here. He should win.

    165
#9 Dallas Bailey v. #10 Cody Yohn (Yohn dec, 10-9 Oklahoma State)

Well aware that Bailey got the stick over Yohn in the UNO finals, but the pin came with Yohn leading 4-1 with a bunch of riding time. I think he's able to close things out this time.

    174
UR Mike Benefiel v. #10 Scott Glasser or UR Joel Hill (Benefiel dec, 13-9 Oklahoma State)

Benefiel already beat Glasser this year in the finals of the Kauffman Brand, however Glasser apparently got hurt wrestling this weekend. If that's the case Benefiel probably gets 6 against Joel Hill.

    184
#8 Chris Perry v. UR Kevin Steinhaus (Perry dec, 16-9 Oklahoma State)

Just like 141 and 174, already happened in the Kauffman Brand finals.

    197
#4 Clayton Foster v. #5 Sonny Yohn (Foster dec, 19-9 Oklahoma State)

Already happened in the All Star match. Foster just a bad match up for Sonny who either needs to steal the first TD, or go 0-0 in the first period.

    285
UR Blake Rosholt v. #10 Tony Nelson (Nelson dec, 19-12 Oklahoma State)

With Nelson having wrestled all three matches this past weekend it seems like he may have a little bit of a grip on unseating Berhow from the spot here. Rosholt wrestled today against Bucknell and won, but Nelson is better and should close things out for the Gophers here.

Can't really argue much against this. Even if we get some unexpected bonus points here and there, it won't be enough. This is a bad team match up for us it looks like on paper.

The biggest thing would be if Glasser is able to go and turns his match against Benefiel around. That gets them to 16-15 with OK State taking it off of JO's bonus at 133. I suppose in that instance you could summarily try and bank on Thorn getting bonus at 141 for the tie.

Tough dual match up wise for Minnesota.

So when is Deitchler going to be in for Minnesota? Ever?

Dallas Bailey should be wrestling with all of the confidence in the world. Hopefully he finds some moves from his feet that don't involve giving up his leg to get them going.

Clayton is going to have to wrestle much better next weekend to keep his ownership of Yohn up to date.

Is there anything official on Z's injury?

To make it easy on myself, I am assuming he never wrestles for the U so that when he does, I am actually pleasantly surprised.

It is actually better for my Pokes that he doesn't ever wrestle, but still like to see him wrestle.

Viratas reported 9 weeks. I was told Big XII tournament at best. Coach John said after new year's but that he would be out longer than Erisman (I think Neil is out of luck with Albert in there at any rate). Coach John and Viratas would seem to line up fairly well. However, the dude who won the Olympics on a torn ACL isn't always the go to guy for rehab time.

Yikes, doesn't sound good. What's the official prognosis, knee?
