Thread: Mike Zadick Allegedy Caught Poaching

Iowa does have a surpus of deer, large deer at that. In the cities they can become very dangerous to drivers. They're not so bad in rural areas. I agree with more hunting of deer in and around urban areas. However I would never agree with poaching anything.

I was involved in a poaching incident once in high school. We were out "road tripping" as we called it one night and everytime we saw eyes in the ditch the driver pulled over and the passenger got out and shot at it. I had no idea there was even a gun in the car until it was being used. My friend ended up shooting a mink and even shot at some farmers cows. He was using a shotgun and it was at a distance so it didnt even phase them but still very dumb. We ended up getting pulled over by the cops around four that morning driving through town (I know we were idiots). They pulled the mink out of the trunk and the three of us that didnt shoot it all pointed our fingers at the other guy. He got his fur bearers license taken away for a few years but still continues to hunt without ethics to this day. Didnt learn a thing. I love the guy. He's one of my best friends but I hate the way he hunts and I dont do it with him.

I think the punishment for the alleged poaching, if true, in this case needs to fit the crime from the universities standpoint. If he took other wrestlers, that he coaches, out with him to commit the crime of poaching, he should be fired...imho. I love Mike Zadick but there is no excuse if this did indeed happen.

Problem is it's hard to shoot deer in an urban setting because of the safety issues involved.

This is really DUMB and then to involve the wrestlers. The way things are anymore you just can't do this stuff really looks bad to the public. PETA People Eating Tasty Animals

You can shoot with a bow pretty safely. It's not like they let you climb up your neighbors tree and shoot over the kids playing a pickup football game in the yard next door. There are alot of bow hunters that live in the city that would love a chance to not have to drive so far to hunt.

Also, there are no deer in say...downtown Minneapolis so nobody is going to hunt there anyway.

I love hunting, but I can't stand poachers. If this is true, Zadick needs to pay the price. Involving Dziewa would be really, really stupid, and the university and coaching staff would make him pay a price for that, too. I love Zadick, and I hope this isn't what it seems.

Actually, my friend, I just had to swerve to miss a dead deer laying on the highway on 169 North going to the office today in Minneapolis. It was right by Eden Prarie, so very urban. There are deer everywhere, but Iowa is pretty bad. I watch real close whenever im driving through Iowa.

I bet I can guess who your friend is too when you were in High School. hahaha

Some urban areas in Iowa have allowed special bow hunts to thin the herds. Iowa City did a few years ago, and Cedar Falls did.

An interesting factoid I heard the other day on NPR: Iowa is second in the nation as the second most likely place to hit a deer with a car.

    First, you ask? West Virginia.

That's not downtown MPLS though Dave. I was talking about Hennepin Ave.

I'm sure you'd be right on your guess too. Not a tough one to figure out.

True... here in Canada I wish they (hunters) would start shooting the deer around the towns and cities. There's lots of good sized deer- and moose- aroud and a lot of my friends have hit them with cars. The problem is getting land owners to allow bowhunting on their property, a lot of them don't want to give permissioon.
