Are you having the 142 pound Fried wrestle the 134 pound Brands, or are they meeting at a catchweight?

Well given the history I personally would likely favor Brands.

That of course would make me a hypocrite as I think a senior year Askren beats a senior year Chris Pendleton.

I think Alan was always a true 34 pounder, wrestling 42 to help the team.

Yes I know his probation year he wrestled 50, but I think that was his natural walking around weight.

2 years of development can be huge though. It's a huge statement that as a freshman Fried was so close to Brands. Give Fried two more years of working with John Smith and who knows how the that match would have gone...

According to that article, Fried had to cut like crazy to get to 34, and wanted to bump up to 42 after he pinned Brands in the Midlands finals.

I guess so.
But to me, he didn't feel "big", like a Hughes per say.
None the less..... I was trying to give credit to Alan vs. Brands vs. weight difference deal.
To say the least...the dude was amazing.

Trusty posting as gage.

Not a hypocrite, they are two different scenarios. Askren was far and away the best wrestler in the country his last two years. Fried, great as he was, wasn't really on Askren's level IMO.

Ok, so we've established that nobody has any video of any of those matches? Damn. Really hard to believe, as big of a match-up as it was.
Tough to say who wins that catchweight match. You've got to go with the man who won 3, compared to the guy with 1.

I'd have to disagree with that statement.
