I disagree, I think Keddy over Pucillo will be the most exciting match of the meet. Keddy's style combined with his motivation from last years semi's will make this a great match from him. Pucillo will be out to prove to everyone that his championship is not a fluke. There is no better way to do this than beat the #3 guy right off the bat. The match was sooo close last year that it could go either way. I think it will go Keddy's way if pucillo doesnt use a little more offense.

Oh and to the topic of the thread. Slaton will chew Ness' right arm off and hand it back to him when they shake at the end of the match. No more half's for Ness after that. This is my unbias opinion.

While match excitement level tends to come down to personal preference a lot of the time I tend to agree with Lost that Ness v. Slaton is probably going to be the most exciting match of the dual.

Pucillo and Keddy scored a grand total of twelve points against one another last year. I'd expect Ness and Slaton to put at least that many on the board just in this match.

While points scored obviously isn't the only indicator of the excitement level of a match the seemingly standard Pucillo/Keddy match script doesn't appear to be that aesthetically pleasing. Explosive escapes for each guy when they're on bottom, then lots and lots, and lots of handfighting interspersed with an occasional takedown (I think there were three total in the two matches last year).

A tight low scoring match can be just as exciting as a high scoring affair. Sometimes the high scoring matches are sloppy and not that much fun to watch. Chances are that Ness and Slaton won't be sloppy, but this early in the season you never know.

Its personal preference I guess, Pucillo keddy is #2 for me.

I dont think anyone in their right mind thinks its a fluke the pucillo won a title last year. The guy had one loss during all of last season and its to the guy who took 3rd. Hes on his way to becoming a 4 time all american and possibly a multiple-time champ, I dont think he gets as much hype as he deserves.

Probably its because he happens to be in the same weight as herbert and everyone thinks its a given that herbert will repeat this year.

I agree 100%. But you can even take it to his freshman year. In the regular season, he lost only 1 match during the regular season and that was to Herbert. He beat a lot of big names, too. Overall, he lost 5 times that year and was ranked #3 most of it. Two were to Kish, one was to Herbert. Three of them came in the NCAA tournament--and I don't know why he didn't do better there.

This last year his only loss was a really awkward OT pin to Tyrell Todd. He also scored bonus points in 22 of his matches last year and is riding a winning streak of around 27 matches.

    His career so far:
    2 years
    2 regular season losses
    6 overall losses
    2 All-American Finishes
    1 Big Ten Championship
    1 National Championship

Like LoST, I don't think he gets as much hype as he deserves. It's not like he came out of no where to win the title last year. He wrestled all the toughest people and always came out on top (save the Todd OT loss).

This year presents quite an opportunity to Pucillo: If he wins a title again this year, and beats Herbert in the process, that will elevate him to a very high status going into his senior year.

All I'm saying is that right now, he's on track to have a spectacular NCAA career and to go down as one of the great upperweights of recent history.

Gold as to why he did not do better his freshman year, I belive part of it might be because he got injured pretty badly when kish pinned him at the b10 tourney, he got picked up and slammed and if I remember right he might even have defaulted out after that.

Remember two of his losses in that tourney were to Kish and Todd, and he's always had a strong rivalry with todd.

I dont know if he can beat herbert, but I wouldnt be surprised to see him in the finals again this year, and I think he has a strong shot at winning another title his senior year.

Another guy who isnt getting much hype is Varner, who despite his incredibly boring style is still a two time finalist in his first two years. Its a shame these guys have gotten overlooked because of ASkren and herbert, we are in the middle of a stretch of EXCEPTIONAL upperweights right now

Its been pretty well known that I don't like Varner too much, his style more than anything else. Last year he wrestled like a Heavy in a 184 lb frame. I like the fields chance of pushing back a little bit this year. I don't like Varner to repeat getting in to the finals although I have to admit, he is going to be right there until the end.
