Wow...isn't John Smith his coach? Wouldn't he figure that out?
Some people take longer than others, and there's nothing wrong with that. Some guys come in and get it right away, and succeed from the very get go. Others take a year or two.
I don't have the mindset that a successful collegiate wrestler has to do very well from the get go. When someone doesn't do real well as a freshman or even a sophomore I don't give up on them. Hell, I don't give up on them even if they don't do well their junior year.
Not everyone can be a Coleman Scott or a Nathan Morgan and make an immediate impact from day 1. Some people are more like Pat Cummins or Deonte Penn and take a while.
I don't see anything wrong with that. In fact, I think that's more of a testimony to good coaching and hard work.

Jason Welch from Northwestern if he does not red-shirt should be a solid freshman.
I believe it. If you watch some videos of Gardner's HS matches, he just dominated everyone. He made them look like they had never wrestled before. Weakley strength is his atheticism and crazy brute strength. But against someone as good as Gardner, his lack of skill should be very detrimental.
I look for Mangrum at Oregon state to be a really good freshman -I picked him in fantasy because the matches I watched him wrestle were incrediblle -the kid has an extra gear or something .
Andrew Howe of Wisconsin could make a big impact as a true freshman.
I heart Jazzy B. White.

Jerome Ward of ISU will be solid for a freshman.
