Definitely, this year Perry and Tann are the last of that old guard in that weight, and we'll get some new stars ushered in this year, and next.

I will trade no champs for a championship any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I would love for Dretsch to prove us all wrong and come through this weight and do something this year. He has the mat experience having been the starter at this weight now for three full years. Alas....we shall see.

Jensens, if you were a TRUE gopher homer you would have actually picked Nord and Berhow as co-champs at Heavyweight, you have nothing to be ashamed of.

I haven't sat down and went through all the teams and all the weights to be writing down my picks for the 80 AA's this upcoming season. I do however want to say a few things about some darkhorses.

125
Senior Luke Smith of Central Michigan has had a dissapointing last couple of tournaments, but he has the potential and the capability to put it all together this year. I look for him to much like Wes Hand did his senior year, kick some ass.

Senior Mark McKnight of Penn State, has proven to us he has what it takes to beat anyone at the 125 weight class. He has also proven to us, that he can lose, and lose badly to anyone at the 125 weight class. I sure hope we see the first of the two this year.

Junior Steve Mytych of Drexel probably makes few and far between list for possible AA's this year, however, I believe he's one of those wrestler's much like Josh Zupancic, who will sneak up on us this year.

Sophomore Nick Fanthrope of Sanderson State should have been an All American last year. He's one of the most underrated and untalked about potential AA's in the nation.

I gotta get off the computer now, but I'll make more of these "dark horse" statements later.

Although I like your pick with Fanthrope, no way in hell we'll see him @25 again. I think I picked him to finish top 8 @33.

Running through real quick, because as I said...I'm bored. Guessed at where a few guys are going to be this year, may have left some out all together, and sprinkled in a little Gopher fan bias along the way.
125-Donahue at least AA's or wins it again.
149-I don't see Metcalfe in the finals and a low AA. Sanderson maybe 8th.
184-Varner wins it.
197-Askren low AA, Phil Davis 2nd
HWT-If Ty Watterson of OSU gets his medical redshirt, he wins it.

I agree on Watterson, I didn't put him on there because I hadn't heard about his 6th year. I hope he gets it, sucks that Anspach didn't get his.

I predict that although Maskren is going to end up with a middle to high AA, he ain't coming into the NCAA tourney with as sexy a record as he did last year. People watched some video of him over the summer and he has definitely lost his "mystique" after the face plant at NCAA's. I know it sounds harsh to say all of that but I actually am a fan and want to see him exceed. I think going through the adversity he had at NCAA's will help him in the long run.

Another guy to consider from OSU is Jake Gonzalez. He held the varsity spot for majority of the year until Stevenson beat him out. With Nick Simmons as a workout partner everyday, he could surprise some. Also, Travis Gardner at 197 has a new partner in AA Alex Clemson of Edinboro. Travis won a couple at NCAA's last year and he might benefit, like Gonzalez will. Those two are my sleepers.
