If you are bringing up questions and comments Wiltz can you put a dig in with some of these guys that have wrestling backgrounds and are now in MMA should try to do more to promote youth wrestling? I think it is wise to have these young kids start out wrestling as it teaches great balance without the striking that Jiu-Jitsu and boxing teach. It would seem almost a natural progression then that a young kid who is interested in MMA would search out a local wrestling club or program since A) they are usually free or very affordable and B) we shouldn't be teaching kids striking and submission type sports until a much later age.

If people want to know one way to give back to the program and promote it it should be through the popularity of MMA. I have a guy locally in Tampa, FL who runs a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program and he has many clients come in to train and then holds a free clinic for their kids with some of his staff on wrestling in the downstairs gym on the mats. It has been HUGELY successful.

My first night will be OCt 15th from 7-9 pm CST.

Gofer, I'm not sure about the format. Scott, has told me it will be real informal the first few weeks until we get comfortable. I will defintely be working some of my own things into the discussion.

Well if the popularity and long term ability of the sport to sustain comes up, feel free to add this idea about some of these guys who have left (i.e. Brock Lesnar, Shelton Benjamin etc) making sure that they do some free clinics or possibly be sure to mention there backgrounds whenever they get the chance so kids can get started earlier and take advantage of a great highschool sport. It just kills me when I see so many forfeits as I figure that was a kids chance to excel in a highschool sport or at least participate.

    Thanks.
