go read the guillotine, Schlatter states he may move up and he may redshirt. States I have gotten bigger, I didn't want to be a bully and kick my brother out of the lineup.

Hmmm....guess now someone owes me an apology? I am pretty sure I called this at the end of last year. I think its the right move. Kids done nothing but wrestle his whole life. Get him healed up, give him the year off and let him come back for one last hurrah and see how he does.

Schlatter acknowledged as possibilities what some people have speculated – that he might move from 149 pounds up to 157 pounds and that he might redshirt this season. "It's a possibility," said Schlatter. "I have gotten bigger. In the past I didn't want to be a bully and kick my brother out of the lineup. but now that he's gone... The main concern is for me to be healthy and I've struggled with that the last couple of years. We'll see how the next few weeks and the opens go, and then we'll see where I'm at."

I do also like how the team rounds out then for 2009-2010.

Actually, there is an argument to be made.

    157:Safratowich (SR) Schlatter (SR)

    174:Young (FR) Cody Yohn (FR)
184: Eidy/Sonny Yohn Sonny Yohn (SO)
    197:McPhail/Geiger Geiger (FR/SO)
    HWT:Berhow (SO) Berhow/Disney

People that would argue that it would seem that Minnesota is giving up in 2008-2009 need only remember that guys like Ness and Safratowich can still go out and focus on their goals of being national champions while the young team around them can get ready for a run in 2009-2010.

I've heard from various little birdies that they may pull what Smith did with Coleman Scott and Nathan Morgan with Mason.

That is, preserve the redshirt for as long as they can and if it comes down to it pull him out in January.

Should Dustin move up and they keep Mason in redshirt I haven't heard if Saf managed to cert at 49. I would hope he was able to as I'd hate to see him squeezed out of the line up his senior year especially given the way he went out and wrestled tough at 165 the last two years.

I'm sure if this goes down it won't take long for the "he's running away from Metcalf" deal to pop up, but if he's too big for 49 he's too big for 49.

It was a shame to see last year just after he finally got healthy and seemed to have his rhythm back given his major over Patacsil in the Big 10 semi's, he goes out and gets injured again fifteen seconds into the second period against Metcalf

I predicted that he would skirt Metcalf months ago. I was joking just to get a reaction but hey. As much as I would like to see two years of Metcalf Schlatter I cant argue with a guys body dictating action.

On another note does it look like Sonny will start or does anyone know.

I was told that Mason and Gieger are looking really, really good and may or could start as true freshman.

I don't follow college wrestling much, but from what little I know this seems like a good idea. Schlatter was too hurt/sucked down/messed up mentally/whatever last year to wrestle to his ability. A year off and weight jump might do him some good.
