    Default Brands: USA or Iowa?

    Brands: USA or Iowa?
Terry Brands, apparently, is deciding between USA Wrestling and his alma mater for his next career step.
Brands'twin brother Tom, I'm sure you know, is the head wrestling coach at the University of Iowa. Terry interviewed for a position on Iowa's staff and was ready to make the move back to Iowa City. But USA Wrestling may be making a change on its coaching staff and Terry could be in line for a promotion in Colorado Springs.

This is all speculation at this point because those involved are not talking, including Terry. I talked to Terry last week and he thought he would have a decision by Sunday, but is not answering his phone now.

But a couple of sources close to the program have confirmed all of the above.

If Terry returns to Iowa City the Iowa coaching staff could look something like this - Tom Brands, Terry Brands, Doug Schwab, Jared Frayer and Mike Zadick. No big man, right? Steve Mocco apparently still is in the picture as a volunteer assistant.

At this point, it remains up in the air. Once Terry makes his decision, all the other dominoes will fall.

I haven't delved into the whole situation, but what is Tolly T. up to now that he has left Northern Iowa? I was under the impression that Mocco was living in Colorado Springs.

Since moving I'm more removed from the 'loop', but I think we can expect some announcement coming on the next week. If things work out I believe Hawkeye fans will be very pleased.

USA only got 3 medals overall. 1 gold, and 2 bronze. That's horrible when compared to countries like Russia where they got 11 overall, 6 gold. The U.S. can do a lot better than that.

Lack of good results at the olympics don't necessarily have anything to do with coaching. The only 2 guys who trained full time with terry were our two most successful wrestlers. Cejudo-gold. Mocco-very very close to medal. Won several matches. Terry Brands is GOOD for USA Wrestling.

Cejudo would HOUSE Escobedo, no contest. I wish he would wrestle at midlands or something just to beat escobedo.
