Brands is like one of those little dogs that yip and bark all the time. After a while nobody takes them serious. When asked what he would have done if Brands tried to hit him Cael replied it would have been like a bug hitting the windshield.

No one wants to see anyone get injured after the whistle? I don't think anyone wants to see anyone get injured ever.

I really don't understand what the problem is. On one hand we hear its OK for one team to wrestle through the whistle, through the out of bounds line, etc and that they're only going hard, giving it their all. So a member of another team does it and suddenly its a problem? I don't buy it. Kudos to the Penn State kid for going hard and not stopping until he's clear that the ref has called the action. I like Brands and I've begun to like this Iowa squad. Generally I don't really follow them closely, but this year I've had extra time on my hands and have added them to my watch list. I really enjoy all the extra stuff they do, it shows where their mentality is and what their coach instills in them. I love it that at least one guy on Penn State is trying to wrestle that way also. I don't follow PSU closely, but if more teams are going to go at it the Iowa way, I think its great for NCAA wrestling. I guess I can see why Brands wouldn't like that though.

Iowa fans showing their true colors on video and on this very message board. Real classy.

Cael is low key and it does take a lot to set him off. So, for him to get out of his chair and confront Brands, common sense tells us all that it had to be bad.

I like Brands passion, but what he did in this video is outright embarrassing for the sport. Iowa fans seem to like temper tantrums so no embarrassment to the university and the fans, obviously.

Kudos goes to Dan Erekson for his interview after the match.

"I'll give him the benefit of the doubt," Erekson said of Wade. "Sometimes you don't hear the whistle and he kept wrestling. Maybe there was something I didn't see because I'm out on the mat, but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. I wouldn't think someone would do that. I wouldn't do that kind of thing."

The way Brands came flying onto the mat, if I was Wade I would have probably reacted to protect myself from some maniac attacking me. THAT would have probably curtailed Brands' future antics more effectively than anything else will.

In the heat of the moment I got no problem with a coach trying to protect his guy. If I was coaching I truely believed it to be a cheap shot or late hit. I'd be fuming as well. It happens all the time in football and basketball. Yet when Brands does something similar it's childish, embarrising..... you people need to get over it.

I don't have a problem with this either, Brands is incredibly intense and saw a guy hit the knee of his wrestler after the whistle. I really doubt Wade did it on purpose but I can forgive brands for jumping out there and being upset. As Wiltz said, this is not confined to wrestling alone. In hockey and baseball, if you take a cheap shop you will likely get punched or hit by a pitch. All brands did was jump around and yell, he may or may not have said something inappropriate but no one really thinks he was going to get in a fight with Cael/Wade right there on the mat do they?

Brands was protecting his wrestler? How? Was Wade getting ready for a flying drop-kick, but was stayed by Brands' heroic efforts at intervention?

Of course nobody really thinks that Brands is going to try and fight someone. Brands has never even came close to fighting anyone. It just makes it that much easier to talk shit about him if he is percieved as a big bully. Let's just all continue to pretend that Cael is innocent in everything that he does and Brands is the guy that takes your lunch money every day. Then we won't feel bad about constantly berating him for doing the same thing that coaches all over the nation do but don't get the exposure that Iowa does. Iowa has been the best team in the nation for over thirty years now and with that comes the haters. It's expected. We will have this same thread after nationals too.
