Thread: Uni 36, niu 0

    Default Uni 36, niu 0

In the battle of the two teams who constantly get mixed up because of similar letters, Northern Iowa shuts out Northern Illinois. I am SHOCKED that 17-3 Bryan Deutsch, pretty much NIU's lone bright spot this season, lost by tech. How has Reiner been doing this season? Is he a hammer on top?

    Results:
133: Ryan Jauch (UNI) dec. Tristen DeShazer (NIU), 7-3
141: Charlie Ettelson (UNI) dec. Vince Castillo (NIU), 1-0
149: Trent Washington (UNI) dec. Dan Ruettiger (NIU), 14-6
157: Tyson Reiner (UNI) Tech. fall Bryan Deutsch (NIU), 21-5
165: David Bonin (UNI) dec. John Odeen (NIU), 3-2
174: Jarion Beets (UNI) dec. Mason True (NIU), 4-3
184: Scott Hazen (UNI) dec. Zach Benzio (NIU), 5-2
197: Dustin Bauman (UNI) pin fall Scott Penny (NIU), 3:50
285: Christian Brantley (UNI) dec. Dakota Greenhaw (NIU), 7-5
125: Caleb Flores (UNI) dec. Izzy Montemayor (NIU), 3-2

It may be time for a change of guard at my alma mater, NIU keeps getting worse and worse since the Scott Owen / Ben Heizer eras.

The other thing that R.Payton brought up is that Trent Washington looks CONSIDERABLY better at 149 then he ever did at 141.

He started the season at 141, right? I remember reading in the offseason he was going to 149 but I remember him wrestling off at 141.

He was at 141 when they wrestled Iowa. He was dismantled by Marion. I was pretty shocked and somewhat disapointed as a fan of UNI that he couldnt even hang a little bit with Montell. It appears that he was cutting too much weight. Nothern Illinois has really got some big problems if they are getting blanked by this UNI team which has major problems of its own.

Trent is 100% better at 149 but , Like Gantry said , I have a hard time envisioning Bryan getting his ass kicked that way -he is tough as nails . DeShazer should never lose to Jaunch and why was Castillo in the line up ?? TW beat up a pretty fair kid in reutinger -but where is Zimmerman ? IZZY was close to beating Precin last year yet finds a way to lose to anyone this year -and I mean ANYONE-they were expecting good things from him .
Either the whole team has quit or the flu was going around -and I've never known Bryan to quit .

DeShazer is quite inconsistent at times, he has an amazing headlock that he can hit from anywhere, but if he can't he's prone to giving up too many points.

Castillo is actually quite solid at 141, given McLemore's struggles this year he is worth a flyer. Castillo was quite successful in starting time last year, might have even placed at Midlands and/or was ranked around 17-20 for a time.

I forgot about Zimmerman, haven't seen his name in awhile. He had a GREAT beginning to his true freshman year, won a couple tournies beating Mario Mason along the way. Then he hit the proverbial "freshman wall" and struggled at the end of the year. Don't know what the story is this year...
