Very cool to see the video and wanted to add a couple thoughts as we were in the stands for that match amongst the enemy in Black and Yellow:
- The Thorn's are excitable....just in general. Never really visited with Mike, but David is extremely pleasant and always seems in a good mood. That said, there are always stories (legends?) of the Thorn boys being maniacs in the room back in high school and they always get fired up on the mat. It seems to work for Mike and I would say is no better/worse than Metcalf's tomahawk chop /pointing after the Purdue DQ....emotions effect everyone differently given different circumstances.
- Several of us were losing our minds yelling "defensive fall" the first time MM was on his back...I was shocked and impressed how Throrn maintained it a second and maybe third time. The people from the Hawkeye wrestling boards we in shock....many were happy as they wanted to see LeClare back in the line-up...which he was for the Iowa State match.
- The chanting the announcer referred to in the video was actually the guys who are on the team and are back-ups / redshirting. There were about 10-12 of them in the first two rows above & behind the Minnesota bench and I think you see them in video. They turned to the MN fans and started the M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A chant....seems kinds hokey, but in the moment it was pretty awesome knowing we had an uphill battle that match with Ness out.
