Wrestling Announces 2010-11 Schedule
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Jim Zalesky, the Pacific-10 Conference's reigning Coach of the Year, announced the Oregon State wrestling team's 2010-11 schedule on Monday.
The Beavers, as always, have a competitive and challenging regular-season schedule that includes six home matches, the first coming Nov. 27 against Simon Fraser. That number essentially jumps to seven at the end of the season as the Beavers will host the 2011 Pac-10 Championships at legendary Gill Coliseum on Feb. 27.
"This is going to be a challenging schedule, no doubt," Zalesky said. "We open with three top-15 opponents in the first two weeks of competition and that will really tell us who are as a team. We're also excited to have the Pac-10 Championships here in Gill which will let our fans see the best of the Pac-10."
Oregon State, coming off its seventh Pac-10 title in 2009-10, opens its season Nov. 13 at Boise State. The Broncos have been ranked as high as No. 2 in the preseason polls. The Beavers, who have been ranked as high as 14th, will then travel to Columbia, Mo., to square off with Missouri and Hofstra, both ranked in the top 15, on Nov. 21.
December will be a busy month for the Beavers, who open up the last calendar month of 2010 by opening at the Las Vegas Invitational Dec. 3 and 4, and a week later, go to Lincoln, Neb., to take on the host Huskers and South Dakota State. That will be followed by trips to Casper, Wyo. (Wyoming - Dec. 16) and Colorado Springs, Colo. (Air Force - Dec. 17) before the team finishes December in Greensboro, N.C., at the Southern Scuffle. The two-day event starts Dec. 29.
January will start a new year and another busy time frame for OSU, which competes at the National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for two days, beginning Jan. 8. The Beavers conclude their nearly two-month trip away from Gill by visiting Cal State Bakersfield on Jan. 16.
The Beavers will invite Cal Poly and Stanford into Gill on Jan. 21 and 23, respectively, before hosting Boise State Jan. 30 in the second Endowment Meet. The meet will raise money for the Wrestling Endowment Fund. More information on the Endowment Meet will be available in the coming weeks on osubeavers.com.
Oregon State participates in three more meets in February leading up to the one-day Pac-10 Championships on Feb. 27. OSU visits Northern Colorado on Feb. 4 and hosts Arizona State (Feb. 11) and Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 13).
Season tickets are available and can be purchased by visiting osubeavers.com or calling 1-800-GOBEAVS. They can also be purchased by visiting the ticket office at legendary Gill Coliseum. Season tickets for adults cost $40 while season tickets for children and seniors are $28.
Oregon State went 18-3 last season and captured its seventh Pac-10 title and second under Zalesky. The Beavers sent six to the NCAA Championships in Omaha last March, and five - Jason Lara, Colby Covington, Clayton Jack, Mike Mangrum and Kelly Kubec - return for the 2010-11 season.

Wrestling Rolls past Air Force Link
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? Five wrestlers tallied pins and nine of the 10 Beavers were victorious in 14th-ranked Oregon State?s 42-3 victory over Air Force Friday night.
Kelly Kubec, Scott Sakaguchi, Colby Covington, Brice Arand and Clayton Jack each earned falls in Friday night?s victory, which put the Beavers at 2-0 this week after defeating Wyoming, 20-15, on Thursday.
?This was naturally a good night for us,? Oregon State head coach Jim Zalesky said. ?We picked up some big wins and guys had a good night all the way around. This was a good week for us as we had to winter break.?
Arand (184) and Jack (heavyweight) each earned their pins in the first period; it was the second pin of the season for both wrestlers. Arand took his in 2:11 over Air Force?s Joshua Mohr, and Jack capped off the night with a win in 1:56 over Jared Erickson.
For Jack, it was his 66th career win, most among active OSU wrestlers. It kept him one above Kubec (133 pounds), who picked up his 65th career dual win with the Beavers? first pin of the season, 4:24 over Tyler Untrauer. It was also Kubec?s second fall of the year and he improved to 6-2 overall in duals this season.
Sakaguchi (149), OSU?s fourth wrestler of the night, put the Beavers up 18-0 with his second fall of the season, which came in 6:20 over Air Force?s Joshua Kreimier.
Last, but not least, of course, is Covington (174), who won his 24th career dual bout ? in 25 attempts ? by defeating the Falcons? Joseph Stafford in 6:35. Covington improved to 2-0 in pins this year, and 17-2 for his career, and pushed the Beavers? lead to 27-3, which officially gave the Beavers the win with three bouts remaining.
One of those three bouts was won by Taylor Johnson (197), who downed Air Force?s Neil Delaney, 6-3, for the first victory of his career as an attached wrestler.
Mike Mangrum (141) improved his dual record to 4-0 this year with an 11-8 decision over Cole VonOhlen, which pushed the Beavers? lead to 12-0. That lead began when Jason Lara (125), earned an 11-5 decision over Gregory Rinker, giving him his 10th victory of the season. Lara is the first Beaver to reach double figures this season.
The win pushed Oregon State?s record to 5-1-2 this season. The Beavers will now take a near two-week break before resuming competition Dec. 29 and 30 at the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, N.C. Visit osubeavers.com for a preview and full recaps and results from the two-day championship.
