COLLEGE PARK, Md. - All-America senior Hudson Taylor has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week for the third time this season after defeating one fellow nationally-ranked opponent and scoring a pair of pinfall wins in Sunday's Wendy's Duals at Ashland, Ohio.
The third-ranked Taylor outlasted 11th-ranked Logan Brown of Purdue for a 4-3 decision in his first match of the day. The Pennington, N.J., native followed up by pinning Ashland's Jake Ewing in 1:07 and Kent State's Casey Newberg in 2:10.
Taylor's performance helped the ninth-ranked Terps to three dual wins, including a 24-16 victory over 14th-ranked Kent State. Taylor, who was also named ACC Wrestler of the Week on Nov. 24 and Dec. 8, is 29-2 on the year, with 19 of those wins coming by pin.
Earlier this season, Taylor became the winningest wrestler in school history. His career win total now stands at 152 and he also holds the school record for career pins with 78. With his 19 pins this season, he is within reach of the single-season pins record of 23, set by Jake Stork in 2002-03.
Maryland has a busy weekend coming up. The Terps travel to Annapolis, Md., on Friday for a matchup with Navy at 7 p.m., and return home on Saturday for dual meets against ACC foes N.C. State and Duke at noon and 3 p.m., respectively. Maryland will honor all faculty and staff, as well as military members for their service and support at Saturday's matches.
