Default Coach Brands at a Meet

I wonder if Dan Gable, Cael Sanderson, John Smith, or Dr. Harold Nichols ever forgot to wear ties to any of their wrestling matches or tournaments. I'm embarassed for the University of Iowa when I see the Brands brothers and their other assistants dressed like they are headed for a picnic in the backyard.

I've been watching Iowa wrestling since the 1950's. I remember watching Shelby Wilson wrestling Ron Gray in Ames in one of the great matches of all time and Nichols' tie was bouncing off his chest so much I thought he was going to lose it. Of course, he never did.

This week John Smith's team wrestled Tom Brands' team. John looked like he belonged in the chair as the coach. Brand looked like he wondered into the coaches' area by mistake. My point is that when you are the coach, you don't dress like one of the wrestlers after a match. You dress as the parents of your next recruit would expect you to dress, as the Iowa alums expect you to dress, etc.

Oh, and Tom, you need to develop some interviewing skills. This hostile crap with the media only turns people off big-time. Learn to talk like a gentleman, even if you don't like to think of yourself that way.

LOL at criticizing their attire. Always something...

Who Brands is and what he says never bothers me. He gets paid to coach his kids and teams to achieve greatness. So far I would say he passes the test. I will take a coach who wears khaki's and a fleet farm shirt and wins over a coach that wears a suit and tie and loses.

Their projected number 1 recruiting class next year says otherwise. I'm sure Iowa alums are loving what Brands does for Iowa.

I don't like when people wear ties because they think they're supposed to. Suits on Brands and Zadick look forced and unnatural. It's not the 1950s any more, and thank God for that. It would be one thing if the Brands brothers and Zadick wore ties at one time, but it doesn't suit them or their personalities.

I'm a hawk fan and I wish Schwab wouldnt wear that suit every time. It looks very unnatural on him. I acutally think the OSU staff looked like a bunch of stiffs in thier suit and ties. Hell, Bobby Douglass wore a damn fanny pack to every event I ever saw him at and I don't think it bothered anyone. I'm pretty sure that the high school kids arent sitting at home pissed off that Tom Brands doesnt wear a tie. people will always find something to bitch about. Hawkeye Haters is what we call them.

The first poster made it pretty clear that he's an Iowa fan, so I don't think it's right to call him a Hawkeye hater. It's more dangerous to just love everything they do just because they have Iowa across their chest. Hating people who have discerning eyes isn't going to do anything good for the program.

I love Bobby Douglas' fanny pack. I asked him once if he kept a voodoo doll of John Smith in it, and he laughed and said no. He then showed me inside the fanny pack. I could tell you what is inside but then I'd have to kill you.

Actually, the first poster never said he was an Iowa fan.. Either way, it's an easy way to lend credibility to your post by claiming to be an Iowa fan and then criticizing them. Then everyone says "Oh, you're so reasonable!"
