I think any coach or wrestler who makes obscene gestures towards the crowd, the other coach, or the other team should be disciplined. There is no place for it in wrestling. Your reward should be in beating the piss out of the other wrestler or team, not in acting like a d-bag. Team points should be taken away when stuff like that happens.

    x2.

And x2 on those people criticizing the back-out-of-bounds technique, drives me crazy and it's the reason I don't watch many folkstyle matches. Even if the NCAA won't adopt the pushout rule, they at least need to enforce fleeing the mat (isn't that an NCAA rule already?)

fleeing the mat is when you go out of bounds to avoid an opponents attack. So when you are just being pushed out or backing out while you may be stalling(though rarely called as such) you are not technically fleeing

It drives me crazy, but I can't imagine how foriegners feel being used to matches where the wrestling is continuous and it is very rare to see an out of bounds occurs, versus the typical (or worst cases Dennis-Oliver) folkstyle match where action is usually on the edge and the most common defense is to crawl out of bounds.

I'm a "foreigner", if Canada counts as foreign. Wrestling websites like this introduced me to folkstyle wrestling (other than an unpleasant experience competing with 2 days practice at the Oregon open, where I learned that escaping from bottom is really hard.) My perspective- the out of bounds rules blow. The wrestling on the edge, where someone is trying to pull the other guy in while he tries to drag himself out, looks rediculous. reestyle's pushout certainly isn't perfect and leads to wierd scoring sometimes, but it's infinitely better.

VA I'm not sure what the rules are on fleeing the mat, my point is they SHOULD call it fleeing and penalize it if you go out of bounds on purpose, regardless of the reason for doing so.
