    Default #1 Iowa v. #3 Oklahoma State Predictions/Discussion

Coming off their 3rd straight National Duals title the banged up Hawkeye team certainly isn't getting any breaks as they face the last team to have beaten them.

    125: #4 Matt McDonough v. #9 Chris Notte
133: #4 Daniel Dennis or UR Nate Moore v. #6 Jordan Oliver
141: #11 Montell Marion, UR Joe Slaton, or UR Dan LeClere v. #5 Jamal Parks
149: #1 Brent Metcalf v. UR Quentin Fuentes
157: UR Aaron Jannsen v. #13 Neil Erisman
    165: #3 Ryan Morningstar v. #12 Alex Meade
    174: #2 Jay Borschel v. #7 Mike Benefiel
184: #9 Phil Keddy v. #13 Clayton Foster or UR Chris McNeil
197: UR Luke Lofthouse v. #7 Alan Gelogaev
285: UR Jordan Johnson or UR Blake Raising v. #1 Jared Rosholt

Lot still up in the air with the line up. Will post predictions when the dual comes closer but this should be a very good one.

    Your on drugs Russ.

125 McDonough dec Notte 3-0 Iowa

    133 Dennis/Moore dec Oliver 6-0 Iowa
Moore wins if he wrestles. He's was very close against Hochstrasser and beat Sentes. This is his first big win if he wrestles.

    141 Marion/LeClere dec Parks 9-0 Iowa
Both of these guys can beat Parks. I'm not sold on Jamal at all.

149 Metcalf fall Fuentes 15-0 Iowa
Brent will be looking for bonus points and will get them.

157 Erisman dec Jansen 15-3 Iowa
These two are close and this one could go either way but I'll throw Okie St a bone.

165 Morningstar dec Meade 18-3 Iowa
While Meade is good and has a good win against DS, he is still young and won't be coming into Carver and beating the returning 3rd place finisher.

174 Borschel md Benefiel 22-3 Iowa
Benefiel has a good record but hasnt wrestled anyone like Jay yet. Jay introduces him to the big time with a dominating major.

    184 Keddy dec Foster/McNiel 25-3 Iowa
It would be closer and Foster might win if he was healthy but he's not so I'll take Keddy.

197 Gelogaev dec Lofthouse 25-6 Iowa
Gelogaev wins and may throw Luke for a pin.

HWT Rosholt dec Raising/Johnson 25-9 Iowa
Rosholt too much for these young guys.

Iowa will come out and make a statement after the loss two years ago.

125: Matt McDonough DEC Chris Notte (3-0 Iowa)
I see this being a 5-9 point victory for McD. I originally marked it as a major, but I figure I need to start being less liberal with the bonus points I hand out.

    133: Oliver DEC. Dennis (3-3)
Should be a very fun match to watch. A true tossup. I guess I'm just banking on Oliver having a better arsenal and a good enough motor to handle Dennis 7 minute press.

141: Parks DEC. whoever (6-3 OSU)
Parks is a definite favorite, but this seems like the kind of match Iowa guys seem rise up and take. By "the kind of match...," I mean against a very athletic opponent who might not want it as much and probably isn't in as good of shape. Parks has had a good year so far, though, and none of the Iowa guys beaten anyone unexpected that I can tell. Also, I've got to rep my fantasy team.

149: Metcalf PIN Fuentes (9-6 Iowa)
    Not much to say here....

    157: Erisman DEC Jannsen (9-9)
Jannsen seems like a solid enough wrestler. I think Erisman wins by about 3.

165: Morningstar DEC Meade (12-9 Iowa)
Morningstar bores his way to victory until proven otherwise.

174: Borschel DEC Benefiel (15-9 Iowa)
Benefiel has been very impressive this year, but I don't think he has enough for Borschel, who wins by 3.

184: Keddy DEC Foster (18-9 Iowa)
If Foster were healthy I might pick him to upset a faltering Keddy, but he didn't look like he was all the way back in his match against Erwin. Prove me wrong, Foster.

197: Gelogaev DEC Lofthouse (18-12 Iowa)
A pin isn't out of the question, and OSU will probably need it here or at heavy to win. Varner was unable to put up bonus. I think if Gelogaev could go a whole match without gassing he would do it, but I think he'll gas and stop caring about the bonus points.

285: Rosholt DEC Whoever (18-15 Iowa)
Like I already said, Cowboys will need a pin here or at 197 to win. I don't think Rosholt gets it.

A lot of close matches here. The Cowboys could put up bonus at 197, 285 and maybe even 157. Iowa could do it at 125. 133 and 184 are tossups. I think Metcalf's pin ends up being a match winner.

EDIT: If Moore is in at 133, Oliver could get bonus.

Would you like me to tell Brendon DeCock, Brock Smith, Jacob Ison, Phil Moricone, or Ryan DesRoches? The only one who's made the NCAA tournament that I can tell is Moricone, and he's won exactly one match. The best guy he's faced this year is Dorian Henderson, and he lost by 5. His best win is a win over Robert Hamlin, where he nearly lost at the end. Borschel's a different cat.
