Thread: Who would win the Hodge today?

  1. #1

Default Who would win the Hodge today?

    Metcalf? Varner? Ness?

    Jayson Ness 19-0
Ness wins by fall 74% (14 pins in 19 matches)
Ness wins by dec only 16% of those wins

Anyone got stats on the other two? or anyone else still undefeated and in contention?

I would love to see Jayson go undefeated and win a nat title, if he does he should win the hodge with the 133 class...he has a long way to go to do that though!

At this point in the season I would have to give it to Ness. He pins everyone seemingly. However, if he ends up with a loss or no national title, I'd have to give it to someone that finished undefeated, if anyone does. Ness has a tough row to hoe with Gomez right around the corner and Dennis, who he has never beat, next month. Even Graff certainly has the potential minus the experience to take a shot at Ness. It won't be easy but if he goes undefeated and wins a national title he is certainly in the conversation and imo as of right now has the early lead over Metcalf.

Varner is dominant in that no one can score on him but he doesnt pin nor score enough to deserve this award, imho.

What about Metcalf? Unless I missed something shouldn't he still be in the conversation?

What if Ness & Metcalf each have one flaw....lets say a 2-1 loss to a highly ranked wrestler, but still win Big Tens, & NCAA titles and both continue to destroy opponents, falls & Major dec. Then Varner wins every match left by a 3-2 score, thus going undefeated. Does Varner still win the Hodge?

Iirc Metcalf had a loss and won it over an undefeated Gavin two years ago. So the precident has been set to give it to a guy with a loss over an undefeated wrestler but it is very rare. If ness keeps pinning people and loses to Gomez in the dual I would rather see him get it than Varner, though I may be bias.

I am a big fan of Varner, but I'd rather see Ness or Metcalf win it if they continue to dominate. Granted Varner does dominate but he doesn't get the pins, techs and majors that the other two do. Even with one loss I'd rather see it go to a guy like Ness/Metcalf over Varner.

Anyone out there besides Ness, Metcalf, and Varner? Lewnes maybe? That is in the Hodge ballpark?
