#1 Iowa v. #5 Minnesota
125: Zach Sanders dec Matt McDonough 3-0 Minnesota (Given the way that the two have been wrestling recently it certainly wouldn't be out of bounds to pick McDonough but I'm picking Sanders over anyone not named Troy Nickerson or Angel Escobedo until given reason not to)
133: Jayson Ness dec Nate Moore 6-0 Minnesota (I would like to think that Ness can get the major here but Moore seemed to do a really nice job when he was wrestling at the Midlands hanging tough with higher level guys and keeping scores low)
141: Mike Thorn dec Montel Marion 9-0 Minnesota (Thorn has been wrestling very well recently but this is without a doubt a major league toss up match and its majorly important for both teams. Should definitely see some major league scrambling in this one from both guys)
149: Brent Metcalf maj Mario Mason 9-4 Minnesota (Again sticking with the assumption that its Mason here. This could wind up worse, not much else to say)
157: Aaron Jannsen dec Joe Grygelko 9-7 Minnesota (Big match for both teams. Grygelko has been solid so the match shouldn't get out of hand or anything but it is definitely a match that Jannsen should win)
165: Dustin Schlatter dec Ryan Morningstar 12-7 Minnesota (Like I said in the write up of the match talking about Schlatter v. Marable. Both of these guys do more or less the same things, Schlatter just does all of them better)
174: Jay Borschel maj Scott Glasser 12-11 Minnesota (Glasser has been wrestling very well since the Scuffle but Borschel is looking like the Borschel from the end of his sophomore year. With the situation in all likelihood being very desperate for his team I think he goes out and gets a bonus point)
184: Phil Keddy maj Kaleb Young 15-12 Iowa (This is a match that sets up well for Keddy to really get his feet back under him as Young is a guy that is undersized at the weight. Keddy shouldn't have much in the way of trouble making use of his strength to overpower him and pick up a bonus point that his team will be very much in need of)
197: Sonny Yohn dec Luke Lofthouse 15-15 (Like Zapp said this is a match that has the possibility of maybe being close but Yohn is the better guy and should win the match)
285: Ben Berhow dec Blake Raising 18-15 Minnesota (So long as Berhow sticks to low singles instead of hideous high crotches and doesn't do anything else sloppy again this is a match that he should win. Would be absolutely wild were it to come down to this)
So here it is. It feels kind of weird actually picking Minnesota to win as I came into the predictions not expecting to do so. Looking at the dual from an overall perspective I imagine that when it comes down to it Iowa probably wins at least one of 125, 141, or 285 and wins the match. Looking at them individually though I came up with this.
For what its worth had Slaton and Beatty been in the line up I would have picked both to win making Iowa the predicted winners 21-12.
#2 Iowa State v. #6 Cornell
125: Troy Nickerson dec Andrew Long 3-0 Cornell (Should be an absolutely awesome match and another opportunity for Andrew Long to try and test himself against the biggest of the big dogs. I think Nickerson's skill on top is what wins this for him.
133: Nick Fanthorpe dec Mike Grey 3-3 (Solid match up between two top level guys. Despite the losses at Midlands and to Ness last weekend I think Fanthorpe comes out on top here)
141: Kyle Dake maj Dalton Jensen 7-3 Cornell (Big match up here for Cornell. Dake getting a major here would be huge for them when looking at how this dual may end)
149: Mitch Mueller dec Corey Manson 7-6 Cornell (Mueller should come out and snag just a solid win)
157: Andrew Sorenson dec John Basting 9-7 Iowa State (Much like the Iowa v. Minnesota dual. This one could wind up being a major league swing match. Its one Sorenson should win)
165: Jon Reader dec Justin Kerber 12-7 Iowa State (While a bonus point from Reader here isn't inconceivable it is certainly possible and would be huge for the Cyclones if he was able to pick one up)
174: Mack Lewnes maj Duke Burk 12-11 Iowa State (Should be a major at minimum for Lewnes who has been an absolute wrecking machine all year so far. Could be a fall)
184: Steve Bosak dec Jerome Ward 14-12 Cornell (Ward comes out wearing the cement shoes and the steadily improving Bosak knocks him off)
197: Jake Varner maj Cam Simaz 16-14 Iowa State (One of those very methodical majors that Varner has been picking up a lot over the last two years. While Simaz has gotten much bigger Varner still out horses him by a lot and given the way Simaz wrestles that sets him up to give the bonus point)
285: David Zabriskie dec Josh Arnone 19-14 Iowa State (Z closes the dual out and sends the Clones into the finals with one of his just solid wins)
