    Default Midlands Finals: On TV

They'll be on BigTenNetwork in 35 minutes for those who have the channel.

Thinking I may keep a tally of the number of times that Tim Johnson says the word "Metcalf" or some iteration in matches other than 149.

Jensen I've heard you say before that youre not a fan of Tim Johnson. Why not. I think he is a good announcer. He at least knows wrestling. Weve heard some really bad ones on ESPN that have no clue as to what they are talking about. Is it because he's an Iowa guy and his bias is fairly transparent?

I just don't think he's a very good announcer. This part above contributes to it, however Mark Ironside is an Iowa guy with an incredibly transparent bias and I LOVE listening to him.

The obsession with Metcalf would be more tolerable if he would talk about (and I think this is the key difference between him and a guy like Ironside) the small things (head hands, defensive scrambling, etc...) that make Metcalf as good as he is rather than just prattling on about Metcalf having a better gas tank than his opponents.

I will say that I'm excited to hear Herbert on the commentary tonight. With two guys there providing color it may lead to Johnson shutting up a little bit more.

Thanks for the reminder Shane. I had this scheduled for the DVR, but I'll watch it now instead.

Say what you will about Tim Johnson but after listening to this guy he sounds like just fine to me..

What's with the clap the Iowa coaches were doing? It looked like the Florida Gator thing. Is that something particular to Iowa or was it somehow a dig at Iowa St?

That guy being terrible doesn't mean that Tim Johnson is any better than he is which is to say still not very good.

As if it needed any reinforcement after watching his match today against Sanders, Andrew Long is just ridiculously good from that underhook position both in terms of working to the opposite side knee or ankle pick or working into a body lock position.

McD did a great job in overtime making use of his length and just sticking an arm out to stop Long from spinning behind him when he looked like that he was dead to rights in the first OT flurry.

Graff looks night and day improved on the mat from where he was earlier in the year. Have to assume a lot of the credit there can go to Jared Frayer who really helped Metcalf pick it up on his top game last year.

Yes, it is a dig at Iowa State. Everything the Iowa staff does is a dig at someone! Duh....Or maybe they were excited for a freshman to win the Midlands.

That's what I figured, although I thought there might be some deeper meaning. Silly me.
