Order of events suggested on themat.com, which kind of makes sense given that interview:

Jenkins wants redshirt year, so he makes self inelligible on purpose
After Jenkins gets grades back up, coaches tell him to wrestle at 149 lbs
Jenkins asks to stay redshirt or wrestle at 157 lbs, coach says no
Jenkins misses weight on purpose so he can't wrestle at 149
coach has had enough, kicks him off team

As an educator I am supposed to comment upon this young man's passive/aggressive attitude and how to adjust said thinking -as a man and former coach I just think he needs an ass-kicking . Even now he has people fooled with that I'll always love Penn State BS-if he loved Penn State why would he purposely flunk classes -why would he miss weight so he could NEVER wrestle 149 again this year ??
He set all this in motion and is now playing the Martyr-makes me want to puke !!
My question is -WHY did PSU put up with this idiot for so long ? Didn't Penn State give this kid chance after chance ? didn't they get him after he was kicked out of high school ?
For those who say College wrestling is a business -where ?? Show me where MONEY is rolling in hand over fist at more than a dozen programs . College basketball is as corrupt as boxing -BECAUSE there are millions of dollars riding on a few points -the first day we see an injury report or a betting line our sport is doomed -but without SOME new cash revenue we will continue to see programs disappearing . The Catch -22 of all Catch -22's. Thankfully ,for one Bubba we have 100 Dan LeCleres or Matt Coughlins .

Now, I've not exactly been a Cael-hater, but not really a defender either, but my interpretation of the situation is that if Bubba wanted to wrestle 157, he should have been allowed to, no matter how it affected the coaches brother. Sorry, but it just looks really bad to me. It seems to me that Bubba wanted a year off (which he has earned from Penn State, IMO), and Cael let him know he wouldn't be getting it, he would be wrestling at 149. While it isn't his decision whether he gets the redshirt, I suppose, I think he earned it. Even then, he shouldn't be forced to only one weight class. He should be allowed to wrestle off at any weight he wants, and if he's the best guy there, so be it.
Jacob Schlottke---Gone too soon, and the world is a little less bright because of it. RIP, brother.

I think some of you folks must have some inside information on Bubba that I don't have. I don't know his entire history. I only know what I see and hear. Once again, I didn't see a manipulative person trying to be a martyr in that interview. I saw a kid who made a dumb choice, and then tries to rationalize it. The responsible thing to do was to win the wrestle-off and take the starting position. That puts you in the driver's seat. If you beat the coaches little brother, but the coach replaces you anyway, then you have some legitimate complaint.

I do think its possible to love a university, but not see eye-to-eye with a coach. People post here that the coach is cutting scholarship students to make way for potentially better recruits. I don't know about that personally, but if that is true, it sounds cold.

I gotta agree with r.payton though: the Dan LeCleres or Matt Coughlins make our sport great year after year. It is the heart that matters, and when talented kids display loyalty and heart, I hope that's rewarded as well as possible under the circumstances.

Russ, I got your viewpoint but I think you are being a little jaded on this. I have to agree with Zapp, Gold & Vais. In any event I wish Bubba all the best. Maybe we'll see him in the 57 finals next year.

Just goes to show. Be careful who you toss out of your team.

Somehow I think the Jenkins catching Taylor in the finals isn't going to bother Cael a whole lot - especially with a team championship in his pocket. Just sayin'.
