    Jerome Ward v. Kaleb Young

1st Period: Couple snap attempts by Young early on here in the first 30 seconds, comes with another snap attempt...Ward controlling the elbow. Young tries to elbow off a couple of times but Ward is just so strong his arm doesn't go anywhere. Young in on a shot and comes up around the body. Ward clamps down on the arm and they go out. Little flurry on the edge ends with Young tumbling off the mat and all the way under the rope surrounding the mat. He got pushing in hard and Ward just kind of redirected him on the edge and he just went for a ride. No real major attempts at offense from either guy. Young has taken a few shots that haven't gotten him anything. Ward has been content to just handfight it out. 1:03 left as they fix Young's headgear. Another shot attempt by Young but again he gets nowhere near Ward's legs. Ward moving forward a little more now. Now Ward tries to elbow off but doesn't get it all the way by. Period ends scoreless.

2nd Period: Ward starts down. Ward power switches around...up to his feet trying to peel the hands and gets away for the escape...1-0 Ward. Ward being urged to attack by one of his coaches. 1 minute to go...half shot attempt by Young. Body fake by Ward. 30 seconds to go. Ward in on a blast double runs through and converts for the easy TD...3-0 Ward. Young tripods back and nearly spins away at the buzzer but Ward went with him. Period ends 3-0 Ward

3rd Period: Young starts down...Ward trying to bump with a spiral...Young comes up to the feet and Ward drops to a single to drive him flat. Ward trying to lock up a farside cradle. Young manages to fight it off...Ward now trying to go tilt and he just gets a 1 count...1 minute to go. Ward looks like he wants to go turk, Young is not letting him have it but in the process gets banged for stalling...30 seconds to go. Ward adds riding time.

Jerome Ward dec Kaleb Young 4-0

Nice little win for Glasser...moves to 18-3 with a win over a decent Burk. Good sign perhaps for the Gophers this year.

    Jake Varner v. Sonny Yohn

1st Period: Both guys doing a nice job staying active early on...both moving their feet well and hand fighting hard. Shot attempt by Varner but Yohn sprawls back...Yohn tries a throw by but Varner just doesn't go anywhere. Varner reaches across for an ankle but Yohn does a nice job not giving it up. 1 minute to go. Couple body fakes by Yohn. Now Varner comes with a few body fakes of his own...30 seconds to go. Yohn in deep on a head inside single now after Varner tries a little shuck but they go out...Period ends scoreless.

2nd Period: Varner starts down...Varner tripods up, Yohn immediately puts a boot in on the feet. Varner reaches around to get a whizzer and nearly hits the whizzer throw that he likes but he only gets 1 for the escape...1-0 Varner. Varner shoots as he gets out and nearly converted for the 2 but Yohn skipped away. Shot by Varner but Yohn sprawls and then comes back with a reshot...Varner with a knee block attempt but Yohn not giving it up. Varner reaching in now on a single, now Varner reaching for an ankle on the edge but they go out. 30 seconds to go. Yohn with a half shot but he left an arm up and Varner just punched the arm through to get behind...Yohn tried to gramby out but Varner held on to him with a nice tight waist. Period ends 3-0 Varner.

3rd Period: Yohn takes both up...and takes a bad shot that leads to a pretty easy Varner go behind...5-0 Varner. Varner now goes to his high half...Yohn fighting hard up to his feet and they go out. Varner trying to tilt but he doesn't hold long enough for a count. 1 minute to go...Varner trying to go 2 on 1 tilt...Yohn hit for stalling. 30 seconds to go...Varner goes 2 on 1 tilt again and this time he gets his 5 count...8-0 Varner. Sonny tries to scramble away when Varner had his half in, and Varner takes him over and sticks him...

    Eric Thompson v. Ben Berhow

1st Period: Couple half shots by each guy early as we get going...Berhow tries a sweep single...Thompson comes up in a body lock and gets in my opinion an AWFUL TD call on the edge as he brought Berhow down. I thought Ben scrambled his hips back square with reaction time. Berhow out quick off a restart...2-1 Thompson. Another sweep single attempt by Berhow but he's shooting them from too far out and Thompson has been able to sprawl before Berhow could really get the angle. Little snatch single attempt by Thompson. Berhow with a shot attempt, Thompson comes back in another reshot and nearly takes Berhow down on the edge, but Berhow has a whizzer and this time he's allowed reaction time and manages to scramble away. Period ends 2-1 Thompson.

2nd Period: Thompson starts down...Thompson up and circles his hips away quick...he tries a little blast double attempt but Berhow gets his hips away and then comes back in with a reshot double leg TD of his own to tie the match up 3-3...Thompson out quick to make the score 4-3 Thompson...Berhow with a couple of single attepts. Berhow with his ugly high crotch...doesn't cost him though as he's able to back out without giving up anything. Period ends 4-3 Thompson.

3rd Period: Berhow starts down...Berhow tripods up and pops his hips out and spins away, match is tied now 4-4...Berhow with a blast double attempt...Thompson comes in with a front headlock and then comes up with a single Berhow does a great job scrambling away to get Thompson flat and then spins behind for the go ahead TD...6-4 Berhow. Thompson tries to switch around after Berhow gets sloppy with a tilt but Berhow stays with it. Berhow bumps flat and rides it out.

Ben Berhow dec Eric Thompson 6-4

    Andrew Long v. Zach Sanders

1st Period: Long jumping around in the middle as Sanders' music plays...Both guys coming out predictably very quickly...Sanders with our first attempt at offenese...Long with a knee block attempt that he likes and comes up to a body lock and nearly trips down for the TD but Sanders scrambles back square with a whizzer...Long with another throw attempt this time Sanders counters with a leg lace throw of his own but Long keeps moving and doesn't give anything up...Sanders elbows off but can't get anything out of it. Long punches in an underhook and runs Sanders around a little but again nothing comes of it. Long again going after his knee block from the underhook. Long tries the CP/Spons throw by single but Sanders slips it and gets behind then trips down for the TD...2-0 Sanders. Long trying to switch his hips around but Sanders staying with it...Long with a step over that Sanders does a nice job to just give up the escape on...2-1 Sanders. Sanders with a single leg attempt, period ends 2-1 Sanders.

2nd Period: Long starts down...pops his hips back and around and gets his hips away...ties the match 2-2...Long picks up a TD off a little trip off of a Sanders shot...4-2 Long. Sanders nearly pulls him off the top for a reversal when Long tries to stick legs in but Long gets away and only gives up the escape...4-3 Long. Long tries a throw by, as he does it Sanders drops down into a shot, Long comes up with an underhook that he drops down onto a leg and converts with a TD at the buzzer. Period ends 6-3 Long.

3rd Period: Sanders starts down. Long doing a nice job staying on as Sanders tries to sit and switch his hips away several times. Crowd starting to get anxious...crowd starting to boo...Long warned for stalling. KJ doesn't like it and comes out to the table to argue, and the ref warns the bench. Sanders switches around immediately, Long dropping to the legs for a single the first time and then to bring him down the second time...6-4 Long with 1 minute to go...30 seconds to go...Sanders tries to duck in, they get scrambling around...Sanders very close to a TD but Long scrambles and bucks him off for a TD of his own at the buzzer.

Andrew Long dec Zach Sanders 8-4

Oh, I don't know, I have to think that Minnesota is pretty happy to be through 174, 184, 197 and heavyweight down just 9-6. If we had Mason and Deitchler in this line-up, this would have been our dual. That being said, had Zabriskie wrestled, it would have swung back to Iowa State, IMO. Its just too bad the Gophers haven't seemed to have what I would consider, their entire line-up out on the mat at one time in the last two years.
