    Final 5
165: Great job by Reader coming out quick and getting his early TD to try and get some momentum. His biggest problem early on in matches against Morningstar has been not capitalizing on some early opportunities. His mat wrestling was much improved comparatively to their matches last year. Morningstar got in on a couple of his shots from a long way out and then pull the leg in deals but Reader did a nice job working to not give up the TD.

174: Kind of a methodical match by Borschel. Burk worked hard from the feet getting in on a few deep shots but Borschel is just so good from that crackdown position. Borschel was working hard from the top trying to get the turn with one of his arm bars but Burk was determined not to give it up.

184: Very similar to their match last year with Keddy having a lot of issues with clearing the ties from up top and getting in on Ward, this time Ward just did a nice job converting two very nice shots for his TD's. Keddy is great when he can bully guys around the mat but Ward is just so big he isn't going to get bullied around.

197: Varner came out and worked very hard from the top trying to stuff the head and get his half but the strength that Beatty has built up over the last two years has really showed as he fought them all off. Varner looked like he was going to lose out on his opportunity for the major there at the end but then Beatty took an awful shot to gift wrap the major for him.

285: Z spent the match really working to just try and move Rasing, and Rasing really wasn't doing much of anything. Then all of a sudden in OT he came out and took a really quick shot to nearly get the winning TD. The Iowa coaches were not very happy at the end, but Fitzgerald told them that Rasing had put himself in that position and thats why he didn't call it PD.

    My thoughts:

McD looked good, not brilliant. Put himself in some bad positions that Long didnt capitalize on. I think the better guy(esco, sanders,T nick) capitalize.

Long didnt look great, sub par shot defense and a sub par gas tank in a match with a guy who was supposed to never make 125 again you wouldnt expect him to get that tired.

Dennis looked pretty good but has been caught on his back twice now. His takedowns are more frequent and conistent.

Fanthorpe did pretty well all things considered: First match back from bad injury against a guy who had beaten every time i believe.

Leclere looked about the best he can in my opinion. Not the most talented but will never give up. Almost pulled off the upset against highe caliber wrestler.

Gallick was noticably gassed midway through the 2nd and barely held on. I'm wondering if his "bruisd thigh" is keeping him from doing much conditioning

Metcalf gave up the td and Mueller apoligized to Brent by falling over.

Metcalf punished him for wrestling like a wuss and not getting up.

57 two mediocre guys Jansen won it with heart

65 Reader finally beats M*. He looked like the better guy but I still like Ryans chances in a rematch.

74 J Bo was a bit flat but was able to get a decent win just missing the major.

84 Jerome ward has been working with bono! That snatch single is vintage bono and it was goo enough for 2 tds against a 2 time AA. Keddys offense was not looking good with only one decent scoring opportunity. Jerome ward was tired but still kept going. Phil wasnt even close to trying a TD attempt at the end.

97 OH NO ITS...Jake Varner..eek. He looked lots bigger and lots better. I said that varner is only getin a TD w/ a double and he did. Varner was working for the fall, but beatty balled up pretty well and was able to keep it to a md(though if beatty didnt dive at an ankle at the end it would have been a dec.)

285-Z took a few shots and never got close in regulation. Raising pushed forward and hand fought. Raising nearly countered a Z shot by puting him on his back but Z scrambled away. In OT Raising took his first shot as an iowa hawkeye i believe and almost got the td. Z took a shot and Raising rubber kneed but it wasnt enough. Pretty interesting match.

If this turns out to be Jerome Wards coming out party and he's now an aa contender ISU can really begin to believe they are National title contenders.

This was a PHENOMENAL dual, and im glad i paid for this one and not the snooze fest that was okey st./Minny.

I like fitzgerald and I thought he did a good job for the most part, but there were definitely some calls I disagree with.

However the no-PD call was not one of them

I love ISU's announcer for wrestling. The guy makes everything seem epic.

Even in Ames, Metcalf gets the loudest reaction!

But seriously folks, that looked like a hella cool envrionment. Wish I was good enough to have wrestled in something like it.
Jacob Schlottke---Gone too soon, and the world is a little less bright because of it. RIP, brother.

One, two, Evans is coming for you...
