Agreed, WDM was the diggity. Great people, nice city. Dowling was the wrestling super power back in those days.

Um, when I was 8, I WALKED there from my house in West Des Moines, so unless they MOVED it, it was in West Des Moines.

Living History Farms is in between Urbandale and Waukee. Did you walk 3 or 4 miles?

Hawkeyes to take on Bucknell and Rutgers

Posted on Nov 26, 2009 by KJ Pilcher.

The University of Iowa wrestling team travels to Lewisburg, Pa., to dual host Bucknell and Rutgers. The Hawkeyes swept through the Iowa City Duals last Friday, going 5-0 and setting a school record by extending their dual win streak to 43.

Bucknell enters 2-2 and is led by All-American Andy Rendos at 165 and 133-pounder David Marble. Rendos is ranked 6th. It does look like there won’t be a matchup of ranked individuals at 165 since Iowa’s No. 4 Ryan Morningstar is not in the lineup. Marble, ranked 13th, and should provide a strong challenge to Iowa’s fourth-ranked Daniel Dennis, who is coming off a one-point win over Maryland’s No. 7 Steven Bell at the NWCA All-Star Dual Classic on Sunday at Cal-State Fullerton. The Hawkeyes beat Bucknell, whose assistant coaches Dave Hoffman and Donny Ooton wrestled for Iowa Coach Tom Brands at Virginia Tech, last season (40-3) in the only dual between the schools.

Rutgers is facing Iowa for the first time and brings in a 3-1 dual record with a pair of lopsided wins over Sacred Heart and a 25-10 victory over Universty of Northern Iowa. The Scralet Knights’ lone loss is an 18-17 loss to Penn State. Their top weights are at heavyweight with Dominick Russo and 157-pounder Scott Winston.

The Hawkeyes could tie the program record for consecutive road dual wins. Iowa has currently won the last 29 road duals, two shy of the record of 31 set from 1994 to 1997.

Here is the probable Hawkeye lineup, according to a news release this week.

Yes, we were going to hear the Pope speak when I was 8. That was 30 years ago. At worst, its on the border. I think you are taking me a TAD seriously though.

Thanks for starting this, Wiltz. kr1963 is right, We should have done this sooner. Thanks kr for the starting your "everything thread."

Rather than debate the relative merits of West Des Moines, (I like most barnyard smells, except for the coop and the hog lot ...), I wonder how the Hawks will do against Rutgers, a pretty good team this year. 157 and HWT seem particularly interesting, as the Hawks need someone to step up there.
