Ok, my thoughts:
125 - Meg looked ok, in fact he looked quite good for a true freshman in his second match, but Sanders is just better right now. Meg will need to continue to adapt his set ups - I think he didn't have to be too versatile in HS to be successful, but I would expect that for virtually any HS wrestler shifting up to B10 level wrestling. Again, Sadners is good - he should have won the match and did. No bug surprise at this point.
133 - Sorry Reber, you are only keeping Martelotti's spot warm for him. If Martelotti is not available in the spring, we officially have a hole in the line up.
141 - I was impressed with Dardanes - he got in good position and bulled through SS in the tie-ups. I think Sherlock will be fine, but unless he improves a lot this year, I'd predict he would qualify for NCAA's and tops out at round of 12, maybe one round earlier. Not bad for a RS frosh. I think he'll steadily improve.
149 - Frank got over confident and was thinking so much about the major he forgot the kid could shoot. He won't make that mistake twice. In his two matches this year, I'm more confident in his ability to score from his leg ride (I realize no back points this match). Last year he looked perfectly happy beating the kid's head in while riding, this year I think he'll score more. I was also impressed with his shots - the kid is decent, he knew that was the shot, and Frank still hit is three times.
157 - Alton GASSED. I have now seen him in person 3 times, and he gassed badly twice (also v. Lynch in wrestle-offs last year). I understand that JD has some good upper body tie-ups and defense from neutral and Alton probably used more energy than usual to work through that defense, but it was still bad. I don't see head case or hole here, JD is solid competition, Alton just needs to find ways to work his stuff for 7 minutes.
I'll skip Taylor and Ruth for obvious reasons
184 - I think Steinhaus is a very good wrestler. he stopped Q's early stuff, and unfortunately, Q turned to sloppy doubles for his secondary attack shots. I think this might be why Cael was trying to get him to work ankle picks and low attacks last year. I think those would really complement his primary offense. we'll see (Q didn't sound too thrilled with that idea last year and he did finish the season ok). I thought this was some excellent wrestling between two very good kids.
197 - Sonny Yohn did nothing. MM will have to adjust to strong, defensive wrestlers, and I think he will because of the coaching he will get. Total brain fart giving up the TD at the end. You get one of those as a frosh, but that is it. Lesson learned. (ps. when was the last time MM was in a tight match after 6:45 of hard wrestling???)
FAT WT - Wade added 15-20 pounds of fat. He does not look ready to wrestle against anyone decent. I hope this is an injury/surgery hangover, but I have minimal confidence in his mental strength. I'd love for Cam to put it all together - I think he could finish 2nd this year given the competition. Right now, he doesn't look like he can score on his feet and wouldn't make AA yet again.
