I personally don't think Megaludis changes the outcome of this result with Sanders this year. MegaTron will have success in his own right this year and he looks pretty composed and solid but Sanders controlled that match. That had nothing to do with conditioning. He's more experienced and right now, a better wrestler. He will get a chance at him at Big Ten's most likely if he wrestles well and based on seeds perhaps might draw the #3 seed (he better hope) but I don't see that result changing.

    Ok, my thoughts:
125 - Meg looked ok, in fact he looked quite good for a true freshman in his second match, but Sanders is just better right now. Meg will need to continue to adapt his set ups - I think he didn't have to be too versatile in HS to be successful, but I would expect that for virtually any HS wrestler shifting up to B10 level wrestling. Again, Sadners is good - he should have won the match and did. No bug surprise at this point.

133 - Sorry Reber, you are only keeping Martelotti's spot warm for him. If Martelotti is not available in the spring, we officially have a hole in the line up.

141 - I was impressed with Dardanes - he got in good position and bulled through SS in the tie-ups. I think Sherlock will be fine, but unless he improves a lot this year, I'd predict he would qualify for NCAA's and tops out at round of 12, maybe one round earlier. Not bad for a RS frosh. I think he'll steadily improve.

149 - Frank got over confident and was thinking so much about the major he forgot the kid could shoot. He won't make that mistake twice. In his two matches this year, I'm more confident in his ability to score from his leg ride (I realize no back points this match). Last year he looked perfectly happy beating the kid's head in while riding, this year I think he'll score more. I was also impressed with his shots - the kid is decent, he knew that was the shot, and Frank still hit is three times.

157 - Alton GASSED. I have now seen him in person 3 times, and he gassed badly twice (also v. Lynch in wrestle-offs last year). I understand that JD has some good upper body tie-ups and defense from neutral and Alton probably used more energy than usual to work through that defense, but it was still bad. I don't see head case or hole here, JD is solid competition, Alton just needs to find ways to work his stuff for 7 minutes.

I'll skip Taylor and Ruth for obvious reasons

184 - I think Steinhaus is a very good wrestler. he stopped Q's early stuff, and unfortunately, Q turned to sloppy doubles for his secondary attack shots. I think this might be why Cael was trying to get him to work ankle picks and low attacks last year. I think those would really complement his primary offense. we'll see (Q didn't sound too thrilled with that idea last year and he did finish the season ok). I thought this was some excellent wrestling between two very good kids.

197 - Sonny Yohn did nothing. MM will have to adjust to strong, defensive wrestlers, and I think he will because of the coaching he will get. Total brain fart giving up the TD at the end. You get one of those as a frosh, but that is it. Lesson learned. (ps. when was the last time MM was in a tight match after 6:45 of hard wrestling???)

FAT WT - Wade added 15-20 pounds of fat. He does not look ready to wrestle against anyone decent. I hope this is an injury/surgery hangover, but I have minimal confidence in his mental strength. I'd love for Cam to put it all together - I think he could finish 2nd this year given the competition. Right now, he doesn't look like he can score on his feet and wouldn't make AA yet again.

I think it's way to0 early to be deciding on how some of these freshmen are going to turn out. We've been spoiled by seeing DT and Ruth come on as freshmen and move right up to near the top from the beginning. Most even star recruits can't do that. And it's tough to go up against a great team like Minnesota in your 2nd collegiate match. Let's give all these new guys some time to see how their game develops. I think D Alton will do just fine as time goes along. I'm hoping the same for Sherlock. I'm quite confident of it for Nico and MM.

I was just talking about near-to-mid term, really. I think Megaludis looked fine and the match will be closer by season's end. Sherlock made a nice recovery from a bad start against Bloom, but really gassed on Sunday - shockingly so. He was wrestling a tough kid, but I don't see him placing in nationals this year or getting a lot of points there. I just wonder how bad his knee injury was and whether he'll come all the way back. Alton has shown me next to nothing in two matches and doesn't show a hint of being able to ride. On the bottom, he hasn't impressed as of yet, either. For a red-shirt frosh who was a #5 recruit out of HS, it's surprising to see such gaps in his game. Mac has to open up his offense a lot - I think he'll be fine. Right now he just looks bottled up on his feet.

For a #2 ranked guy, Yohn certainly had a rough weekend at 197.

Does anyone have video of the MM vs Yohn match?

Yohn is always a slow starter and he's coming off a bad knee injury from last year as well. I think he's AA material but don't guarantee much after that. I think he gassed because he's used to riding and when MM got up that fast, it put him back on his feet for 2 minutes he didn't think he was going to be there. If I'm J Rob and crew I make him go through practice and when he gets his guy on the mat, they put them both back up to neutral again, no riding.

Try theguillotine.com or the Gopher website. I think that one of them has it. the last 15 seconds was something special. Is MM actually shorter than Yohn? I've stood next to Yohn and i'm only 5'9" in my shoes but I think that I'm taller than he is. Can't quite match the muscles though! At a Gopher party after Konrad took second in the NCAAs, I shook hands with him and Damion Hahn one after another. Cole obviously towered over me and had huge hands, but my word, I've never felt hands as muscular as Hahn's were! He couldn't be much over 5'9" either.

I considered the Megaludis and Macintosh matches a win for those kids. Niko kept the match close against a Senior returning AA. Macintosh is in the same boat. He really wrestled a good match and the outcome will be different come March.

    Reber....*sigh*
Sherlock was a stall-a-holic. He had no aggression and was wrestling to "not lose"
DA wrestled solid and gassed out in the third. work on conditioning.
Tank needs to work on his bottom wrestling and wrestle for 7 minutes. Actually, make it 8 minutes to account for the minute he loses focus every match.
    DT = NC
Ruth did what was expected of him
QW - tough match but he needs to pull out a win as a returning NC. This is a new year.
Wade - was way out of shape and has a lot of work to do.

Your right about Mega and MM, they are win's bc they got on the mat and faced those #2 ranked seniors. That can't help but benefit them later.
