I agree, let's let the facts come out before passing judgement. But the way you posted sounds like you are defending a university over a child. Again, I hope you didn't mean it that way.
I would treat this as any other potential crime where serious physical or mental harm is alleged:
If you know something, put it out there for everyone to learn.
If you want to express sympathy for those involved, absolutely go for it.
But if you are just making S**t up, as someone on this board was, it will make the situation worse. In no way will it help any of the alleged victims or perpetrator.

I don't mean at all to make it sound like I want the story to go away. I do, however, believe strongly in the concept of innocent until proven guilty. Even more so in child-related situations because especially in my field, even the suggestion of something inappropriate can end a career. Having said that, the allegations against Sandusky seem very strong, and those against the AD and the guy who is basically the "chief of police" (as KR called him) seem undeniable.

As bad as it sounds this might be, let's let the truth come out.

That's cool. I just thought that you might state something like you hope it isn't true for the child's sake. Your post read like you were just sticking up for the University and dismissed what could have "possibly" happened. And trust me, I am NOT a politically correct guy. I just don't understand how Paterno or any other person who heard the charges didn't go directly to the real police and make sure some sort of investigation was started. Like I've said before, I have always respected Paterno, but only doing "what he legally had to" is not enough in a case like this. Even if the guy turns out innocent, Paterno failed to stick up for a 10yr old boy who could have possibly been raped. The accusation should be enough to make him pursue it.

I just heard on the radio that the AD and someone else have resigned due to alligations of a cover up. I hope they do find out the truth and all are prosecuted. But most of all, I hope the kids get help. Not just a check in the mail, but real help for the rest of his life.

I'm sure more information will come out, but I agree with this completely. Paterno's son (an attorney) seems to be the spokesperson Paterno, and he released a lawyerly statement, some of which is contained here: Paterno shocked by charges, PSU rocked by scandal - ContraCostaTimes.com

Sandusky wasn't an employee in 2002, which is when this was reported to Paterno. I don't know whether that had any impact on Paterno's lack of followup, but I suspect it may have. If someone came to me with such an accusation, I think I'd run it to the ground and be sure it wasn't just brushed aside. Paterno is a legend with the power to get things done, but it appears that he reported what he was told and then moved on (allegedly).
