PSU was at his school & he got to talk to DT.
So to confirm everything we already have been saying per DT
he is going to 165 & Ed & Q are NOT bumping.

So I guess we really can get onto discussing 141 & 197....
That's quite a murder's row--DT, ER, QW back-to-back. Teams better hope to have a pretty good lead before it gets to them! I'm with the group that thinks that AA will redshirt this year--makes sense to me for all the already cited reasons. I also think that McIntosh will redshirt as it's in his long-term best interest to do so. If he did wrestle this year at 197 it will make the team stronger, including a better shot at beating Iowa in the duals. But they should still have a plenty strong tournament team for the NCAA's if everyone remains healthy. If one or more key wrestlers get hurt that could change the equation. But otherwise it would give him another year to grow into 197 which should improve his NCAA showing in his first year.

@ 141 your choices are Sherlock, Pearsall, Frey & maybe Reber.

@ 197, if no MM, the your choices are Crowell (small) Ortega (has he improved?) or Syrek (injured senior year but PIAA placer junior year).

So your line up right now has this look:

    125 Nico
    133 Long
    141 Sherlock/Frey/Pearsall/Reber
    149 Tank
    157 Dylan Alton/English/Vollrath/Fischer
    165 DT
    174 ED
    184 Q
    197 MM/Crowell/Ortega/Syrek
    285 Wade

    184 Q
    197 MM/Crowell/Ortega/Syrek
    285 Wade
That looks like a winning lineup to me, even if we hold out A Alton and McIntosh.

New APR rules state that you have to have a four year average of 930 to compete in the post season. Penn St is in trouble.

Herkey--I appreciate your concern for PSU's eligibility status! Since that report was for 2009-2010 I gather that more recent data would be determinative. I've never heard of an across-the-board team eligibility based on team grades before. I had only heard of individuals being ineligible based on grades. Are you pulling one on us? I don't know all the PSU wrestler's grades but I know that a number of them have been quite good.

Tom, I have very little knowledge on how the APR actually works, but I know it is a number that the NCAA uses to evaluate the academic progress and graduation rates for teams. I got this information from the forum at theopenmat. I'll leave a link. You will get more information from it than I can give.

Herkey--Thanks for the link. I'm sure true Iowa fans like you would much rather beat PSU at the NCAA's than win without their presence. But I do wonder about any effect of this on eligibility status. I had certainly not heard of it before. I did also find it interesting that Brown's and Lehigh's scores were even lower, around 900--that's hard to figure with being such academic schools. I will be interested to see if there is further information on this. PSU sports places a fairly high value on academics in general. From what I've heard of Cael he would not be an exception to this. I know that PSU often leads the Big 10 in sports academic all-Americans.

Of course I would rather win nationals with the best teams there. Dont ever want to give the haters an opportunity to make excuses.
