I've considered this. I reckon Q is a pretty thoughtful young man and when he looked at the totality of the year, he'd be very happy with winning his weight class at Nationals, but would say that Taylor had the better YEAR. I believe the Iowa and Minnesota duals left a bitter taste in his mouth from an individual and team standpoint. Those losses will also help fuel him for the next two years. I could be wrong, but that's what I think.

Per most of the STATISTICS David Taylor had a better year in terms of more wins, tech falls, majors, takedowns, back points etc but I can guarantee you he would trade them for what Quentin has. Even if Quentin never wrestled another match he will always be a NCAA champ.

That's true on an individual level, but on a team level - and everything I picked up on from the Lions this year indicated they were a tightly-knit team - I still have to believe that the losses in duals to Minnesota and Iowa, especially Minnesota, stick in Quentin's craw and will motivate him going forward. Penn State was close to being undefeated in duals and champs at Nationals this year and he could have helped them more to achieve the first goal.

I'm a big believer in the "net team points earned" measure.

Sorry Steve nice hypothesis but it is not true. Outside of the default loss to Scheidel, Q avenged all of his losses from during the year in the course of the run to the B10 & NCCA championships.

KR, are you saying that if Q will feel fine about a loss as long as he beats that guy later? No doubt every one of these guys wants an NCAA championship, but they still care about what happens along the way. I'd agree that he, and I, would vote Taylor as having the better year.

I am saying that those losses are not sticking in his craw. He learned from them & he won.

If the measure is the PROCESS then by Statistics Taylor would win. If the measure is the RESULT then Q had the better year. I think DT would trade his record for the Championship & Q's record.
