Ask Cael:
Cael, I am a highschool wrestling coach and I had an athlete of mine give up at practice. I know he has potential which is why I harp on him however he lacks the mental toughness. How would you handle a situation where your athlete quits or won\’t fight in practice-you know it will carry over to competition or become a cancer to others within the program. Please answer, curious to know your stance.

NOTE:
Lots of TOP PA High School talent entering the NL Open.
Chance Marsteller, a south central Pennsylvania teenager who trains with former NCAA champion and Lock Haven great Cary Kolat, is entered at 125. Marsteller captured a Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling title at 117 pounds last spring.
Marsteller isn’t the only young wrestler competing at 125. Bellefonte’s Mitchell Port, a two-time PIAA Class AAA placewinner who signed with Edinboro last month, Juniata’s Zack Beitz, Benton’s Mike Rhone and Coltin Fought are among the high school wrestlers entered in the division. The weight also includes former Lewistown star Matt Snyder, a redshirt freshman at Virginia ranked 19th. State College senior Erik Galloway, a 2008 PIAA placewinner, will compete at 133, the same weight that includes Sherlock and Tyrone’s Ronnie Garbinsky.
Former Bald Eagle Area standout Landis Wright, P-O graduate Mike Horton and Shane Alterio, a 2009 PIAA placewinner at Bellefonte, are also competing Sunday. Landis, who pinned his way through last weekend’s Mat-Town Open while wrestling unattached, is competing at 197, a weight that includes Maryland’s Hudson Taylor (No. 3), Missouri’s Brent Haynes (No. 12), Virginia’s Brent Jones (No. 15) and Pitt’s Matt Wilps (No. 19). Horton, a redshirt freshman at Edinboro, will wrestle in the loaded heavyweight division while Alterio is wrestling at 141.
Both Altons are participating in their third straight college tournament. Andrew, who won the East Stroudsburg and Mat-Town Opens, is competing in a 141-pound bracket that includes Pitt’s Tyler Nauman (No. 8), Lehigh’s Seth Ciasulli (No. 12), Missouri’s Todd Schavrien (No. 18), two-time West Virginia All- American Brandon Rader, Hofstra’s Lou Ruggirello, Penn’s Zack Kemmerer and PIAA Class AA champion Colin Shober of Schuylkill Valley. Dylan’s 149-pound bracket includes Lehigh’s Joey Napoli, the wrestler he defeated in last spring’s PIAA finals, along with Penn State’s Frank Molinaro and James English.
