I bumped into Dave Taylor on Friday and we chatted briefly. He looks ready.
Great to hear! I'm from SC, where did you run into him Blue?

Not the start I was hoping for as Conaway and A Alton both lose. I wasn't expecting Pearsall or Lawson to advance as they had tough draws but Conaway beat his kid earlier in the season and, even though Houdashelt is a gamer, I thought Alton should've beaten him. PSU advances only 6 as Minny advances 8. Let's hope for a better second round tonight.

I was worried about Houdashelt but thought AA would step up. That was incorrect. there is still hope for him to get it going, but the door is closing fast.

And sorry I missed your post. He was finishing practice, so Rec Hall.

Much better second round for PSU. 10-1 in the evening session. Lawson looked terrible underneath Apland in the 3rd.

I'm really happy with the evening session, but man did that Lawson match tick me off. He was taking Apland down fairly easy, but then showing no effort/desire to ride him at all. Apland took down to start the second, and even with the two takedowns, I don't think Lawson got riding time anywhere near 1:00. I don't know if the plan was to play catch and release...or if he just wasn't feeling like riding tonight.

My memory is going, but I thought the one thing he did ok was ride a bit in the first match. I guess locking your hands makes that easier. Damn rules...

Houdashelt's win over Ness makes AA's loss to Houdashelt not so bad. Missouri wrestlers are really tough on top. If Nico gets Waters in the semis it will be interesting to see how Nico does on bottom. Waters shut out McD earlier.

I'm sure Cael & staff are still puzzled about Hwt. Everyone thinks that Lawson has the higher ceiling and that may well be the case. But he has yet to get a signature win. Gingrich's performance against Telford wasn't very inspiriing but he does have wins over McLure and Chalfant. I'm sure that next year it's going to be a tough call again. Both guys have great potential but haven't shown any consistency yet.

I'm really pleased with D Alton and think he has a good shot at Welch today. He has won their last 2 matches.

OSU and Iowa are looking tough as well. If Telford hadn't gotten hurt Iowa would likely have 7 in the quarters along with OSU. Minnesota had some tough losses 2nd round. A lot of wrestling yet to go!! Anyone of the top 4 could win if they get hot.

And he now, even if he gets by Grajales which he should, he has Vinson in his consi bracket after that. Not good. Hope he surprises me.

MUCH better round. And Lawson looked awful on bottom and on top! He looked good on his feet, thought he had the match secured. Terrible mat wrestling. Other than that a great round for our guys. Big kudos to Conaway for beating a tough kid in SV2 nonetheless, and to A Alton for coming back with a big pin. I like our chances in the quarters to have everyone advance. Obviously D Alton will have his hands full but he's beaten Welch before, maybe he's got his number.
