Thread: Everything Penn State Wrestling

The situation was, I believe, much more dire in last year's B1G's final round. So they definitely can pull it out. They've been a pretty good crew so far in rising to the challenge - I wouldn't be shocked if they did pull it out. Hopefully the performance in the semi's will get their heads in the right place for Nationals.

    125-McD wins Nico gets 4th
    MN 0-117
    IA 4-116.5
    PSU 4.5-114.5

133-Ramos over Steiber, Dardanes 3rd, Martelotti gets 8th
    MN 1-121.5
    IA 0-120.5
    PSU 1-114.5

141 Marion beats Russell, Pearsall gets 8th
    MN 4.5-126
    IA 0-124.5
    PSU 1-114.5

    149 Tank wins
    MN 0-126
    IA 0-124.5
    PSU 4-118.5

157 DSJ beats Welch, Dylan gets 4th
    MN-126
    IA-128.5
    PSU-3.5-122

165 DT wins, Yohn gets 3rd-THIS IS KEY FOR MN TO WIN
    MN 4.5-130.5
    IA 128.5
    PSU-4-126

    174-Ed wins, Lofthouse gets 3rd
    MN 130.5
    IA 4.5-133
    PSU-4-130

184- Steinhaus wins, Quentin gets 4th & Gambrall takes 3rd
    MN-4-134.5
    IA-4.5-137.5
    PSU-3.5-133.5-

    197-Yohn gets 3rd, Morgan gets 5th
    MN-4.5-139
    IA 137
    PSU-1.5-135

    285-Nelson wins, Cam gets 3rd
    MN 4-143
    IA 137
    PSU-4.5-139.5

NOW you can see how important it is for the Dardanes (& Yohn) to do well for MN to win & why even Martelotti & Pearsall winning their matches is important.

Even in this scenario that favors the Gophers if Nico, Dylan finish 3rd & Frank & Bryan finish 7th PSU wins b/c that is just 4 extra points & enough to beat the most optimistic predictions for MN
    H2Hs
    MN vs IA 2
    PSU vs MN 2
    PSU vs IA 1

I may be just a hayseed plow boy but I just like to watch them wrestle and let the chips fall where they may. What happens when Ness beats Tank?

If Ness beats tank thats a big blow obviously for PSU & a huge step for the Gophs.

Here are the keys to today for PSU to win their 2nd B1G title, (# = seed):

    SUNDAY
    PSU has 15 matches
MN, IL & tOSU have 13
    & IA 10

    Current Team Standings
    MN 117
    IA 112.5
    PSU 111

125-#3 Nico needs to get 3rd (4.5 points for PSU)
    Nico vs #5 Mele
If he wins he gets the winner of
    #4 Delgado vs #7 Eppert

    THE HELP
McD beats Sanders (4 for Iowa, 0 for Minnesota)

    THIS SCENARIO
PSU gains .5 points on both Iowa (-1 behind) & Minnesota, (-5.5) behind

133 #8 Martelotti needs to win his 7th place match (1 pt PSU)
    Frank vs #7 Kiley
Frank lost a one point match to Kiley in the last second in Lincoln
Also if he wins he is a NCAA AQ

    THE HELP
#1 Stieber over #2 Ramos (no points for Iowa)
#4 Chris Dardanes needs to lose to #3 BJ Futrell
Futrell beat Dardanes earlier this year 9-6.
Other consi semi is #5 Quiroga vs #6 Stevens
Both of whom Dardanes beat, look for him to get 5th (1 points for Minnesota)

    THIS SCENARIO
    PSU stays even

141 #8 Pearsall needs to win his 7th place match (1 pt PSU)
Bryan vs UNSEEDED Nelsen of Purdue
    They haven’t wrestled before

    THE HELP
    #1 Russell over #3 Marion
#4 Nick Dardanes vs #6 Thomas of Illinois
Dardanes has a 1 pt win over Thomas earlier this season
Other consi semi is #2 Hunter Stieber vs #5 Sueflohn
Dardanes lost to #2 Stieber earlier in the year, look for Dardanes to get 4th (3.5 pts Minnesota)

    THIS SCENARIO
PSU loses 2.5 points to Minnesota (-8) while being +1.5 on Iowa (and hence tied).

149 #1 Frank just needs to defend his title (PSU 4 pts)
#1 Molinaro vs #3 Ness (0 pts for Minnesota)
Another MAJOR DEC would be nice!

    THE HELP
No needed as Iowa’s Kelly has been eliminated

    THIS SCENARIO
PSU gains FOUR (this is HUGE) on Minnesota (-4 behind) & on Iowa (+4 ahead). Here they jump into 2nd place.

157 #2 Dylan needs to finish 3rd (4.5 pts PSU)
    #2 Alton vs #5 Demas
Dylan beat him earlier 4-0 at Rec Hall
If he wins, he gets the winner of #3 Green vs #4 Jones
Dylan beat both by 1 pt earlier in the year

    THE HELP
#6 DSJ needs to lose to #1 Welch
Welch went 0-3 last year to DSJ by a combined score of 15-5.
    Not looking likely.
    Minnesota has been eliminated here.

    THIS SCENARIO
PSU gains 4.5 on Minnesota & up .5 on Iowa if DSJ wins. PSU goes ahead of Iowa (+4.5 ahead). With that win here PSU pulls ahead of Minnesota (+.5)

165 #1 DT just needs to win baby win! (PSU 4 pts here)
    #1 Taylor vs #2 Evans
David beat him 9-4 at Rec hall earlier this year.
A MAJOR would be nice here or more

    THE HELP
This is KEY here for the Gophers:
Which Cody Yohn will show up?
    #7 Yohn vs #5 Polz
Polz beat Yohn earlier in the season by 2 pts.
A win for Minnesota here would be huge.
Other consi is #3 Kokesh vs #8 Harger
Look for Yohn to get 5th (1 pt Minnesota)

    THIS SCENARIO
Here PSU gets an extra 3 points on Minnesota (+3.5) & an extra 4 on Iowa (+8.5). That means PSU is pulling ahead of both Minnesota & Iowa

174 #1 Ed just needs to defend his title (4 points PSU!)
#1 Ed Ruth vs #2 Logan Storley
They have never met but Matt Brown beat Storley at the Southern Scuffle

    THE HELP
    #3 Lofthouse vs #8 Blanton
Need Jordan to step up here
Ethen has 3 wins over the Illini this year by a combined score of 18-9.
The other consi is #5 Heflin & #9 Munster
Lofthouse is 1-1 vs Munster & 1-0 (last year) vs Heflin
Look him to get 3rd (4.5 points Iowa)

    THIS SCENARIO
PSU pulls away from Minnesota by 4 more points, (+7.5 total) & on Iowa (+8).
At this point the most Minnesota could get is 12.5 more points & Iowa could only get another 8.5. PSU could be closing in on winning it.

184 #2 Quentin needs to get 3rd place (4.5 points PSU)
    #2 Wright vs #8 Hinton
Q majored Hinton last year in the dual.
In the other consi semis it is #4 Gambrall vs #7 Dallago
    Last year Gambrall majored Dallago
Let’s say Wright loses to Gambrall in the 3rd place match.
3.5 for PSU & 4.5 for Iowa, if Stienhaus wins that’s 4 for Minnesota a virtual ash in terms of points.

    THE HELP
#3 Ihnen will need to upset #1 Steinhaus
#7 Dalago will have to beat #4 Gambrall

    THIS SCENARIO
In the Steinhaus 1st , (4 points), Gambrall 3rd, (4.5 points) & Wright 4th, (3.5 points) scenario, PSU loses a little ground on Minnesota (now +7) & on Iowa (+7) for the day. Minnesota can now only gain 8.5 points & Iowa can only get 4 more. Iowa is basically eliminated right here.

197 #3 McIntosh needs to finish 3rd (4.5 points PSU)
#3 Morgan takes on #1 Sonny Yohn who beat Morgan at Rec Hall by 1 point earlier in the season.
The other consi is #6 Campolattano vs #8 Kissel.
Look for Morgan to take 5th & get 1 point for PSU.

    THE HELP
Morgan needs to help himself & finally beat one of these upper classmen! Iowa is OUT here!

    THIS SCENARIO
Minnesota gains 3.5 on PSU here (cutting the lead in half) while PSU gains 1 on Iowa (+8).

285 Cameron Wade needs to get 3rd place (4.5 points for PSU)
#2 Cam takes on #7 Chalfant of Indiana
The other consi is #5 McMullan vs #10 Andrus
Wade beat McMUllan earlier in the year in Evanston. He has not faced Chalfant but beat Andrus in East Lansing this season.

    THE HELP
#1 Nelson takes on #6 Telford
It would be good to have Telford win but really it is a toss up as either one loses ground to PSU if Cam finishes 3rd.

    THIS SCENARIO
If Nelson wins but Cam takes 3rd PSU wins by 4 team points total. They beat Iowa by 12.5.

Congrats to Penn State on their B1G Championship. Their big horses came through as expected. Someone's going to have to knock these guys off at NCAA's, B1G's had no answers to 149, 165 and 174.

First day choke job. Second day some hard effort put out trying to make up for it. Congrats on the Title.McIntosh better redshirt next year and see if he can figure out why he falls asleep during part of the bigger matches. So much promise maybe he can't handle the pressure?

Now say that all again a third time, but just a little differently.

Unfortunately for McIntosh, Yohn and Powless clear out but still a lot of young guys at 197 and Schiller for Minnesota is a good one. I think he ended up 25-4 with losses to Simaz, and Yohn twice? I think he beat Mc 10-5 at Midlands?

Schiller beat McIntosh at Southern Scuffle. You didn't know Gofer that your team does NOT go to Midlands? :P
