    Default Harold Nichols Open results/brackets

    http://intermatwrestle.com/Files/pdf...ycloneopen.pdf

    Interesting stuff.

125: Andrew Long is back wrestling with a nice performance, majoring Krutsinger in the finals.

133: Cody garcia, a D-2 national champ, has a nice performance winning the weight with a decision over Nate Moore in the finals. The guy is legit, he beat Jordan Oliver last year.

141: Unfortunately, Gallick Med FFT'd in the Semi's, or else he would have met Joe Slaton in the Finals. Slaton ended up winning 14-7.

149: Mueller won in a relatively empty weight.

157: Interesting results, with ISU's back up, SOrenson, beating Derek St. John in the semis, and then Sorenson beat Brett Robbins in the Finals, after Nate Carr Med FFT'd.

165: Jon Reader dominated his way through a weight without many names in it.

174: Duke Burke has a nice tournament and wins the thing with consecutive 3-1 decisions over Iowa's back up, Lofthouse, and his own back up, Spangler.

184: Grant Gambrall upsets Jerome Ward 6-2 in the Finals. Ward did beat the guy who beat him in wrestle offs, Joe Curran, in the semis.

197: Varner dominates teh bracket with 4 pins and an 8-0 major.

HWT: Zabriskie wins in relatively uneventful fashion, but he doesn't appear to have given up a point.

Reading HawkeyeReport go ballistic about Long being back in the line up already should be fun.

Big win by Krutsinger over Terrance Young, thats not a match that I would have necessarily predicted him to win and certainly not to win by tech fall.

Another impressive beatdown of a solid Sorenson by Varner.

Looks like Z by virtue of handling his business will assume the #1 ranking at heavyweight after the craziness at CMSU today.

I was there today and will say that I am excited to see Joe Slaton back and wrestling well. There was alot of good matches and I'm too tired to expound further but maybe tomorrow.

Oh, St. John was winning 4-2 when Sorenson hip tossed him for five. St. John looked good today and was on his way to beating Andrew. That's not to take away from Andrew as he executed a very nice throw.

Eric Thompson looked horrible. Had two losses and looked like he needs more help. I thought he would be further along than he is by now.

Come on, not even a little props for Slaton?

I'm just gonna put this out there...Jerome Ward is just not that good. Him losing to Gambrall really doesnt surprise me and i'm not just being a hater..

Your right Ward isnt that good. I have never seen him wrestle a quality opponent with success. In the first couple of rounds yesterday he was running back to the center and really getting after it, but as the tournament got longer and the opponents got tougher he quit running back to the middle and quit taking shots. He looks like a physical beast but his wrestling skills just dont match his physique. Now Gambrall on the other hand looks like everyones little brother. Everytime I see him I want to give him a snuggie. But looks are decieving because this kid can really wrestle. He and Ward couldnt be any more different and I'm glad that Grant is at Iowa and not Jerome.

This is all speculation, but I have a feeling that Jerome Ward would much prefer to be at 197 and will do so once Varner leaves. He was an absolutely HUGE 189 pounder in high school, the kid is all muscle. 2.5 years later he's wrestling 184 and the results aren't what you'd expect. Again, it's strictly a guess on my part but I think the weight is an issue...

Good to see Slaton back and wrestling well, hope to see him contend for 141 next semester.

Who is the heavyweight from Wartburg who took second? Looks like he had a nice tourney...

Did Slaton plow thru the competition or did someone pose threat?

His two closest matches were 7 points again Dalton Jensen (backup 141 for ISU, but a very good backup) and Mario Morgan (DII AA for UNO)
