Sad for Erwin, injury really has regressed him. Fine young man and in his prime was really fun to watch could beat anyone

    That is progress my friend.
Your right, he looked good too. I wasn't too familiar with his opponent but he did keep grinding and eventually just opened the match up. That was kind of my point with guys like Sanderson and Craig who are seniors. I know you can't just wave a magic wand and get bonus points but just urgency by either one.

Ortega was wrestling up a weight beat erwin in intrasquad meet. Erwin had flu looked ok early not in shape . This team has to many holes to be competitive. As far as being improved already better conditioned Cyler fills what would be another hole. Next year this team will be vastly improved only hole i see 133.

It's crazy that Erwin is struggling this much... I guess Rella will really have to step it up and be the guy if I'm going to score any points at 171 this year...

I wouldn't give up on Erwin yet. 174 is a huge cut for him. The early season results will not be the final tale of the tape. He has had trouble the last couple years early, until his weight gets under control. He even talked about going 184 in the last couple off seasons. I think he will be alright with a few more weeks of keeping his weight down. As far as I know, he's healthy right now. As stated, unfortunately that has not been the case the last few seasons.

In the Intersquad Ortega beat Erwin. I would have originally thought that it boded well for Ortega but after Erwin's demise to a freshman I wondered how good either of them are. Seeing how Ortega did against Craig makes me think that Cael's choice to move Ortega up was a good one. Being a RS Fr meant about as much as Erwin being a 5th year senior.

Cael's comments about Erwin & the team were not too kind after the match either:

    http://www.centredaily.com/sports/story/1624943.html

On the team:?You don?t get many opportunities to wrestle a dual meet like this,? Sanderson said. ?You have to go out there and take advantage of it. Some of the guys did. Some of them didn?t. It was definitely an opportunity we will learn from. I hate to lose. I hope they hate to lose. I hope they are feeling pretty terrible right now.?

    On Erwin:
?That was a huge match,? Sanderson said. ?It?s not so much losing. It?s the way you lose. If you lose a match when it looks like you?re not fighting, that?s a lot worse than just going out there and getting crushed in a match. That?s rough.?

    ALSO:

Sanderson, who said in a post-match radio interview that he may switch Erwin and fill-in 184-pounder Justin Ortega, said he liked some things Erwin did early, then his mood changed.

    SO
I think from that data I can only surmise that Cael has been impressed with Ortega & disappointed with Erwin & may reward the RS Fr with a lower weight. It will be interesting to see what happens when Crowell gets in the mix next semester. Erwin may not wrestle again!
