What about Atlanta, I think it would be sick to have them down here in the Dirty South. TON's to do around Philips Arena.

I love Atlanta but you have to have a college team "serve" as host

who served as host for Albany?
There aren't any college wrestling teams in any division in the area.

The MAAC Conference served as the host, even though they don't sponsor wrestling, so Sienna was the host institution, while Rider was lumped in there as a co-host, since it's the only MAAC school with wrestling, although they're an affiliate member of the CAA, not an all-sports member.

UTC is 2.5 hours away and could serve as the host. The city and access to entertainment is perfect down here. I'd like to have it in the south once before St. Louis gets it forever. The worst they can say is no to a bid.

It would be a huge step to growing wrestling and college interest int he south, GA has got 2 JUCO programs in the last 2 years so we are making a little progress.

Gimme some feedback on the idea I'm actually gonna make a push for ATL to put in a bid.

My suggestion would be that you'd need to contact UTC and see if they would want to serve as host before you start to make your push. From what I understand (through Greensboro's bid) is that it's the host university that actually has to initiate the bid process. Then they get their venue of choice to fill out the specs.

As for saying you'd like to see it in the South "once" it was in Chapel Hill in 1994. I worked at the entrance where the coaches & athletes entered and most of them said they liked the location (mainly because the weather was great at that time), but one huge drawback was with being on campus, public parking was pretty much non-existent on Thursday & Friday.

I do think Atlanta would be fun but I'm partial to Greensboro. The staff of the coliseum there as well as the Greensboro Sports Commission have really put in a big commitment to wrestling and I know they'd do a great job. Buying 12 Dollamur mats last year to use for the Super 32 and Southern Scuffle are evidence of this commitment.
