Jerome Ward gets knocked off by Curran in OT. Mueller defeats Weatherman with a point from riding time. Reader lays the smackdown on the 174 back up, and then Varner goes and beats Eric Thompson seemingly pretty definitively which is interesting given that Thompson is an excellent heavyweight. Big story from ASU is obviously Robles DEC Ashmore 7-4, Drouin's match looks like it was close too though. 197 pounds – Eric Thompson (RFr.) dec. Yikes, some eye opening results. Curran doesn't have much on his college resume to make me believe he will hold this spot for the year but that will have some affect on my 184 back-up spot. As far as Galante going down, ouch. And I agree, thankfully his guy is redshirting. Thanks for the update. Last edited by goferphan; 10-31-2009 at 08:35 AM. |

Craig did not exactly dominate his match either . I was going to try to get Ward off you as a back up but his schedule was too bad -now I am really glad I got whatshisname instead . That match can't have done much for Galante's confidence . |

And folks shouldn't put too much stock into wrestleoff results, as these people know their opponents inside and out. It's a great way to get some discussions going but we'll have to see how the early opens play out before we anoint starters at this point.... I'm confused at Thompson of ISU, he didn't actually get down to 197 did he? Why didn't he wrestle Zabriske? |

Maybe Z is a little dinged, or something. I kind of found it odd too that instead of having Thompson wrestle Z, they sent Varner up to give him a match. Unless Thompson lost a limb or something over the summer I don't think he was down at 97. |

Not only that, but Thompson only beat his other opponent, Simonson, by a 10-9 score.

All is normal on the VT front. Matt Epperly looks nasty at 165. Teched his guy in about 1:45 or so. Diaz had a hard time with VA state placer Cameron Hurd(who only majored my little brother in H.S., lol) Diaz is a guy who is pretty flaky, and maybe this was just an off day. Garnett precautionarily didn't wrestle but is fine.

I don't know if I'd describe Diaz as flaky. He's always been pretty methodical and that style can obviously lend itself to low scores, especially against guys that he wrestles with regularly. Interesting info though regardless. |
